ASD & Other Developmental Disorders
Workshop is June 29-July 1
Supporting Our Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder & Other Developmental Disorders
The need for educators to work with persons who have disabilities continues to grow. Increasing numbers of persons with a range of disabilities are now living in small residential settings in our communities, attending classes in neighborhood schools, holding jobs in local businesses and participating in community recreations and social activities. There is a great need for educators to provide the services and supports for these individuals.
In this session, participants will:
- Identify the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders and be able to define the Autism Spectrum Disorder categories and how these characteristics relate to other Developmental Disorders.
- Understand that children with Developmental Disorders learn differently than other children and that children with Developmental Disorders need various supports in order to be successful in the classroom.
- Create visual supports, use appropriate communication strategies, and employ appropriate behavior strategies for children with Developmental Disorders. Participants will also define how these strategies will be taught.
