UMAC News 2/27

Mrs. Wiley and Mrs. Barrett

Dear Parents,

It's hard to believe our PARCC testing begins next week for our New Friends. On Monday and Wednesday, our team will have lunch from 11:30am-12:20 pm. and testing will begin promptly at 12:25pm. Mrs. Barrett will be taking the New Friends into the lab immediately after lunch. We would still encourage our students to bring a snack for an afternoon break after our tests. This will be a nice opportunity for our whole team to come together and celebrate our efforts throughout testing. If possible, to avoid any appointments during this time.

We know our UMAC learners will ROCK!

A note from Mrs. Marks about PARCC testing

The PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) testing window for grades 3-5 begins on March 2 and ends on April 3. Within this window, your third, fourth or fifth grader will take five different computer-based tests, three English Language Arts (ELA) tests and two math tests. Each classroom teacher should have communicated their specific five testing days to you by email or in a newsletter.

As a reminder, PARCC summative assessments are designed to measure overall curriculum and program effectiveness in the areas of English language arts and math and are standardized to allow comparison across student groups. The PARCC summative assessments consist of two required components: a Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) that will be given in March and into early April and an End-of-Year assessment (EOY) that will be given in late April and during the month of May. The PBA component of PARCC requires that students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through extended tasks. The End-of-Year assessment (EOY) assessment is composed of shorter, machine-scored questions. This year, the EOY test window is from 4/27/15 to 5/22/15.
