RBS Coronavirus Update 4
Monday, March 16, 2020
From the Executive Director
RBS Fast Facts:
- Governor Murphy has ordered all public and private schools closed
- RBS closed, until further notice, beginning Tuesday, March 17
- Periodic RBS Coronavirus Updates will be shared with parents as new information becomes available
- An overview of our DDLP is included in this update
- The DDLP is evolving and expanding day by day, updates will be forwarded as available
As noted above, Rock Brook School will be closed until further notice. We understand that this closure will likely pose great challenges and hardships for our children. In the coming days we will be sharing educational links to exploratory activities and virtual distance learning opportunities. Our DDLP will, in many ways, allow our Rock Brook learners to gain knowledge and experiences in the same way that many colleges and universities routinely offer to their undergraduate and graduate learners.
Our Rock Brook Tech Coordinator, Maggie Deeds, has provided the following brief video overview of how our DDLP will roll out over the next few days:
As we have shared before, we understand that we cannot fully replace the in-person classroom experience, however our staff is working hard to develop meaningful learning opportunities via Google Classroom and other online platforms.
Initially, we will begin with the use of limited websites and specific activities to get the students acclimated to completing school assignments at home. We will progressively move to live, online interaction via Google Meet.
For tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, we begin with a request for parents, along with your child, to view the following two videos:
Parents Guide to Google Classroom in 2020
Introducing the New Google Hangouts Meet
These videos will set the stage for more involved and more interactive online learning opportunities as we move forward. You can expect additional email communications with continued updates and information as we roll out our DDLP over the next few days.
We thank you for your patience during this difficult time for our entire nation. Wishing you all the best over the next few weeks.
