Building Pathways To Success
From The Principal's Desk October 23, 2020
Greetings!
Our return to F2F has gone well. Students are getting back into the routine of being back in school full time. Thanks for your support ensuring the transition is seamless.
Teachers are facilitating Simultaneous Instruction. Teachers will provide instruction for both face to face and remote students simultaneously. This includes our Specialist teachers also. Teachers and service providers within our Exceptional Children’s Department should follow the instructional schedule already communicated by the Special Education’s Department.
Now that we are back in the routine of F2F, be reminded that students reporting F2F should report to school before 7:40 AM. Students will receive a tardy notification after this time. Remember to send devices with your 2nd - 5th grade child each day.
Each instructional day is from 7:40 AM - 2:20 PM. Students at home will receive instruction virtually as they have been previously. Students will be provided breakfast and lunch each day. Bus transportation is posted.
We also would like to thank you for your patience as we navigate through the unexpected. By now, you are aware that we experienced a positive COVID case last week. A statement was sent to all stakeholders to provide an update. Thank you for the many positive responses and feedback regarding our efforts to get the communication out to you as quickly and as transparent as possible. All parties impacted have been contacted. See a copy of the notification included in this newsletter.

Car Rider Arrival and Pick-up
Thanks so much for your support. Staff members are reminded about health and safety precautions when opening doors during drop off and pick. Please help us by assisting your child with exiting and entering vehicles during this time. Make sure that students are ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive. Bookbags, lunch boxes, coats, etc. should be easily accessible so students can exit vehicles quickly. Be sure to roll your window down so that you can hear staff members provide guidance to students during morning arrival.
***Managing COVID-19 creates a constantly changing environment for our school district, and our school leaders and teachers are working diligently to adjust with those changes. Check out the new Fulton County information page where the district has gathered resources to help make the start of school successful for our students and their families. School Nutrition
https://www.fultonschools.org/foodstop
Fulton County School Nutrition will continue to serve FREE meals to all children under the age of 18, or under the age of 21 for youth with special needs. All children, regardless of school enrollment or meal eligibility status, can receive FREE meals. Students attending school face-to-face will receive FREE meals during their school’s scheduled mealtimes. Nutritious & delicious student favorites will be provided at breakfast and lunch. Curbside & Bus Stop Locations will be utilized to distribute FREE grab & go meal kits throughout the district.
The School Nutrition Department received the current Free and Reduced Percentages for each school. At the end of September, Wolf Creek ES is at 46.69% Free and Reduced Students. The final number will be run on October 31, 2020. We are 12% under last year’s percentage of 58.5%. We would like to maintain or exceed 58.5%. This percentage is essential to our earning Title 1 funds to support our various school wide initiatives and students.
All students are currently receiving free meals, however, the grant will only last until December or when the grant funds are exhausted. Students who have not applied this year are on a Full-Pay status. When the grant funds end, charges will apply. It is important that parents complete the lunch application.
Please see the link to the meal application and School Nutrition website.

Helping Kids Cope
As we begin to phase students back into the building full-time, please know that some of our scholars may have a difficult time adjusting or need support. To provide additional support to our students, the Wolf Creek Counseling Department and Odyssey Family Counseling will host small groups focusing on coping skills, while covering issues such as anxiety, stress, anger management and grief & loss. Students will learn specific tools and strategies to help them navigate through these difficult experiences
All small groups will be offered throughout the school year. If you feel your child may benefit from participating in this support group, please contact me directly at searcys1@fultonschools.org or via phone (470)-254-2775 for more information.

Fulton County Schools/Fulton County Board of Health Parent (Student) COVID-19 Reporting Portal
Many of the students in Fulton County Schools (FCS) will begin the return to full face-to-face instruction on October 14, 2020. For this cautious return to face-to-face instruction, a number of changes were implemented to ensure the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors. Among the most vital of these changes is the development and introduction of a new electronic FCS COVID-19 Reporting portal for parents. This electronic reporting process will allow for a more direct reaction from primarily the Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) with support from FCS to promptly respond and address student/family cases of COVID-19.
Working in collaboration with FCBOH officials, this secure system allows parents/guardians to notify the district and FCBOH of a COVID-19 risk involving their student(s). The system takes the reporting parent/guardian through a series of questions that they must answer, and that information submits directly to Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) personnel who will initiate the COVID-19 case investigation. Once received, the FCBOH public health team will:
- contact, case investigate, and follow-up directly with parents and students
- work in collaboration with Fulton County Schools’ Health Services team and share essential information so the district can take the appropriate action to respond and contain any COVID-19 risks to the school staff and other students
- provide the parent/guardian (student) direction regarding testing, self-isolation, quarantine, or the need for additional medical care
The following are the categories that we are asking parents/guardians of FCS students to submit a COVID-19 report – if the student:
- has tested positive for COVID-19
- is waiting for the results of a test for COVID-19
- has been in direct contact (within 6 ft for 15 minutes or more) with someone diagnosed with COVID-19
If any of the above categories apply to the student, the reporting parent/guardian will be prompted to fully complete the report to FCBOH. If the student does not meet the above criteria for submitting a FCBOH report, but is not feeling well or is ill, parents/guardians will be directed to notify their personal healthcare provider. The reporting portal should not be used to garner a medical diagnose of symptoms or illness.
The following are guidelines to access the new portal and additional information about expectations:
- The portal can be accessed by using a communicated link and/or a QR code via a mobile device.
- Once accessed, the parent will be asked to complete questions about the report (i.e. – student’s name, school, grade, testing information, etc.).
- The information will be sent to and received by public health officials who will contact the parent submitting the report directly to follow-up, investigate, and provide guidance.
- The public health team will communicate pertinent recommendations, guidance, and follow-up with the FCS Student Health Services Team.
- The Student Health Services Team will share information with district leaders/principals as deemed appropriate to ensure the appropriate district response
- Depending on the severity of the reported case after the investigation, the district will respond as noted in FCS COVID-19 Response Plan/Closure Matrix.
