Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was president of the Union during the Civil War. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president the Southern states feared that he would abolish slavery and seceded. Lincoln's goal of the war was to bring the Confederate states back to the Union.
The Emancipation Proclamation
This is a document that Abraham Lincoln signed on January 1, 1863. This document promised freedom to slaves that belonged to states that seceded from the Union.
The Gettysburg Address
In 1863 Lincoln gave a speech called the Gettysburg Address. He gave this speech at the battle sight of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He said that he would save the United States's " government of the people, by the people, for the people."
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. He was born near Hodgenville, Kentucky. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in the Ford Theater on April 12th.
