Mammograms, Pap Smear, and Prostate Exam
Mammograms scan for breast cancer, pap smear is testing for cancer of the canal of the cervix, and prostate exam to diagnose testicular cancer.
Why to get regular exams?
Regular mammograms have been shown to lower the risk of dying from breast cancer by 35% in women. Regular pap smears help prevent cervical cancer, the school leading cancer for women. Regular prostate exams prevent testicular cancer, to treat at the earliest time. All of them are better to be found out sooner than later.
Who should be getting this test? And how often?
Mammograms
mammograms are usually for women over the age of 50, they need to get one done every 2 years.
pap smears
Pap smears are for women from 20-65, and needs to be done every 2-3 years.
Prostate exam
Prostate exams are for males to detect testicular cancer. Males from the ages of 20-30 are recommended to get one every few years, after the age of 40 it should be a part of yearly doctor visits.
