Kennedy Update - September 2023
A community of belonging, support, and excellence
Career & College Pathways
This month, I focus on the role education has in opening doors to careers and colleges and our collective role in supporting this.
The mission of Bloomington Public Schools is to empower and equip each learner to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The vision is we envision a united, inclusive community where all learners foster their dreams, explore their interests, and build their futures.
Five district goals support the mission and vision and one of these goals is Future Ready Instruction. This goal strives to ensure all students are future ready. As a high school principal, this means that when students graduate from Kennedy, they have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their career or college choice.
Career Pathways is a district-wide, student-centered approach that starts in preschool and continues all the way to graduation. At Kennedy, this looks like career planning activities during Advisory, visits from College Representatives, Career Speakers, Career and College Field Trips, Job Shadowing and Internships and direct help with the college application process.
Counselors are experts in supporting students with their career and college pathway by ensuring they have the credits needed to graduate AND are registering for classes that align with their interests and abilities. And, Career and College Counselor, Mr. Timmy Nguyen, provides direct and highly-skilled support to Career & College Pathways for all students.
I am excited to watch each student create their own path to their future. My door is always open so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
