I would like to thank the 6th grade team, LPA staff, students and parents for your thoughts, prayers and encouragement during the transition of my grandmother.

1. We will continue to cover the following standard:

SS6E5 The student will analyze different economic systems.

a. Compare how traditional, command, and market, economies answer the economic questions of 1 -what to produce, 2-how to produce, and 3-for whom to produce.

b. Explain how most countries have a mixed economy located on a continuum between pure and market and pure command.

c. Compare the basic types of economic systems found in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia.

2. A weekly quiz will be given on this Friday, January 22, 2016. Students should be begin reviewing their notes and the PowerPoint posted on Edmodo.

3. Current events will be due on Friday, January 22, 2016. Current events should be submitted via Edmodo.

4. The student Edmodo code is 465dqr.

5. We are still accepting donations for tissue, hand sanitizer, electric pencil sharpeners, and other school supplies.

Hello wonderful LPA parents. Our scholars will begin a new unit called The Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Students will learn that the phases of the moon is determined by the position of the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Students should have researched the characteristics of comets, meteors, and asteroids, filled in the information in their charts given to them on 1-15-16, and be ready on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 to discuss these features. Students will also explore solar and lunar eclipses.

Standards for this week:

S6E1.f: Describe the characteristics of comets, asteroids, and meteors.

S6E2: Students will understand the effects of the relative positions of the earth, moon and sun.

S6E2.a: Demonstrate the phases of the moon by showing the alignment of the earth, moon, and sun.

S6E2.b: Explain the alignment of the earth, moon, and sun during solar and lunar eclipses.

  • Students must check their libraries on for next week's reading.
  • All students should come to school on Tuesday with a COMPLETE FINAL DRAFT of their book to be published. The Final Draft should be typed or handwritten (no writing on the back of pages) and be completely free of all grammatical errors and correction marks.
