Holland Elementary School Message
March 5, 2020
Hello HES Families,
It's hard to believe that it's already March. For many families, that means that basketball is wrapping up and children will soon be starting their outdoor activities for the spring. As a principal, the arrival of March means that there is planning and preparation to be done for PSSA testing. Truly, I think of other things when March rolls around, but this is a big one on my list.
The administration of PSSA testing for ELA (English Language Arts), Math, and Science is coming up, and the schedule for these assessments is below:
- English Language Arts - April 21st, 22nd, 23rd
- Mathematics - April 29th and 30th
- Science (Fourth Grade Only) - May 4th and 5th
Below you will find links to letters that outline specific dates and general information for our assessments at Holland Elementary School. Along with parents, the teachers have been preparing the children for PSSA testing with every lesson and activity that has been facilitated since the beginning of the school year. The staff and I will continue to maintain an appropriate test-taking environment in which we will modifying schedules, and we will provide opportunities for the children to get their blood flowing with some light physical activity before each test. We ask that parents support the children by having them get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast, and come to school in comfortable clothing.
PSSA Frequently Asked Questions 2020
And although it is not always possible, it is best to avoid having children take make-up tests. Therefore, it is helpful to schedule necessary appointments outside the testing times and have your child present at school each day on time. If any student arrives to school after the 9:30 a.m. test start time, students will need to make up the missed assessment on another day. We know that the children will be successful when they give their best effort, and the staff and I appreciate your support.

From the Nurse's Office - Medication Policy
Per CRSD medication policy, students are not permitted to carry medication to or from school. If your child needs medication it must be brought into the school by an adult, and given to the nurse. Please pick up all medications by the last day of school. Medications that are not picked up will be disposed of per the district’s medication policy. We can no longer store medications in the health office over the summer, or transfer them to another school. Thank you.

The Young Rembrandts Art Program will soon be starting another session at HES. It will be offered on Mondays from 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM from April 20th to June 8th (no class on May 25th). The program's acclaimed drawing method teaches children to break down complex objects into basic foundational shapes. As they learn how to deconstruct and reconstruct images, the experience, repetition and variety of engaging and relevant subject matter brings them to increased levels of mastery in drawing and in life! There are new exciting lessons every week!
Families interest in signing up their children can read more details at the following LINK.

If you haven’t done so already, please check out the content that has been posted to Council Rock’s School Start Times Hub. The hub will grow as the district dives deeper into its exploration of school start times, but there’s already a good amount of information that will help you familiarize yourself with this important topic.

Draw the Future Contest
The Thompson Organization's 29th annual Draw the Future Contest is upon us. Thompson Toyota loves having students’ artwork in their dealerships.
Here are the details:
- The drawing of a Car of the Future should be done on 8 and ½”x 11” white paper (printer paper is fine). Please do not draw on notebook lined paper.
- They can download the entry form HERE or get an entry form from Ms. AuBuchon in the Art room.
- The drawing must be done in color – markers and color pencil work best!
- The entry form must be filled out and taped to the BACK of the drawing.
- Please submit your entry with drawings to Ms. AuBuchon by Tuesday, March 17th. She will take them to Thompson Toyota.
- There is no entry fee for this contest.
- For privacy purposes, students should not put their first names on the fronts of their drawings. Names can go on the back of the drawing.
- Three winners will be chosen from each grade. Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony in April.
- Contestants will be contacted by email regarding contest results.
- All entries will be displayed in the Thompson showrooms throughout the month of April. Families can visit the dealerships to see their drawings!
- Every participant will receive a 2020 Draw the Future t-shirt, which must be picked up – with the child’s drawing – by his or her parents by April 30, 2020.
