Volunteer Recognition
“Volunteers are not paid…. not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” -Unknown
Firstly, we'd like to thank ALL of our volunteers this year. We appreciate everyone that has taken the time to donate their time and their talent to our school. Thank you for all you've done this school year.
Next, we would like to recognize a few volunteers that have been volunteering their time and talents for the many years their child has been at PVES. These parents are moving on with their 5th graders and we will miss them greatly. Their contribution to our school over the years will not be forgotten.
A huge “Thank You” to the following Catching Waves: The True-Blue Penguin Award
Recipients for the 2021-2022 school year:
Denise Dabs, Jennifer Howard, Jenna Lang, Sonya Loya-Nelson, Kari Marshall, Nicole Simpson, Laura Simbulan, Monique Uyeda, and Corrine Versteeg
Catching Waves: The Pam Danford Legacy Award
When Park Village was still a rather new school, an amazing volunteer named Pam Danford dedicated countless hours, quietly and happily taking on job after job, creating many of the activities and programs we still enjoy today. She made a tremendous impact on the school, the staff, and the students. The entire community was shocked to learn that, during this time, Pam was also battling cancer.
After her passing, her family set up this award to recognize a special volunteer who embodies the true legacy of Pam: involvement in the children’s lives and in our community, demonstration of perseverance, commitment, compassion and optimism, and the way a person can inspire others through positive attitude and actions.
Jim Buchmiller and Kari Marshall have been an integral part of Park Village Elementary for many years. Their contributions span over a decade and are a valuable resource for new and upcoming volunteers. Both long-time board members of the Foundation, their commitment to the school will always be greatly appreciated.
They volunteer their time tirelessly and thanklessly, and always with a smile. They are always willing to step in, offer a hand or support in any situation.
We will miss them as they move on from Park Village Elementary but their impact will be felt for years to come. Thank you Jim and Kari for all that you’ve done for our Teachers, Staff and Penguins. Your dedication is a true reflection of Pam’s spirit.
Counselor's Corner
Counselor's Corner, Summer suggestions
It is that time of the year! It has been chaotic and productive and fun and kept us flexible. Lots of personal growth for all. Many of us are looking forward to some long, warm, slow summer days. There will be increased opportunity for family fun for all.
I would like you to consider another aspect of summer – the added opportunity for self-care both in what you eat and your activity and renewal level. The summer is a great time to focus on your emotional and physical well-being.
Some ideas on ways to nurture ourselves include:
· To eliminate or decrease the information overload. Turn off the T.V., cell phone and e-mail for periods of time. Replace them with soft or energizing music, the sounds of nature, a fun novel or just relaxing in the back yard. Most things will still be there when you get back to them.
· Notice what you say to yourself and change any negative thinking to gratitude. Enjoy each day.
· Decrease stress with increased exercise, humor, Yoga, deep breathing, music, or a social event with friends.
· Create a “Gratitude Journal”. Make it a family thing. Start a tradition.
· Eat more nutritionally. Take advantage of all the fresh veggies and fruit in season.
Start today! I wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer. Watch this video for a fresh view of life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSt7k_q_qRU

I just want to thank you for sharing your beautiful children with me. I will be retiring in June and want you to know what an incredible year it has been with your children and the teachers at Park Village. This year has truly been the highlight of my school counseling career. Thanks! Your beautiful, strong, brilliant children are our future.

*** I would like to “gift” you with a Google Doc I created on the Love and Logic parenting techniques. I love these because they are easy to do AND they work with our kids. Will send, as an attachment, with this e-mail. You can also log onto www.loveandlogic.com for more ideas.

Parking Lot Reminder
Please do not park in the school parking lot. All spots are reserved for staff members only. Handicapped spots are open to those who have handicapped permits. We are already short on parking spots for all of our staff members. We have had several repeat offenders, which complicates things for staff who we need to have on campus on time. Thank you very much for your help.
