Updates from Mrs. Froning
January 6, 2018
Reminder: Parent/Teacher Conferences Thursday, January 18th
Please log into Family Access to sign up for a conference time just as you did previously. You are invited to sign up for a conference with our Fine Arts staff (Art, Music and Physical Education) as well. Obviously, Mr. Little, Mrs. Todd and Ms. Vining are unable to conference with each family on January 18th but they would welcome the opportunity to meet on an alternate day if you wish to do so. A video of how to schedule your conference time can be found HERE and written directions are available HERE .
Owl Drop Off Reminders
The winter weather can certainly make our school parking lot challenging during the morning drop off. PLEASE remember the follow to allow for a safe and smooth arrival. Student who are not in the building by 8:05 will be marked tardy.
- Please pull as far up as you can. Regardless of your location to the door, it is expected that your child will exit the vehicle once you have safely stopped. When all vehicles are cooperating by pulling up, we are able to unload as many as 10 vehicles at a time.
- If you’re parking and walking your child inside, please do so at the front end of the lot and use the crosswalk for safety.
- Please keep speeds below 10 mph in our drop off zone, even if you’re pulling through in the left lane. See above for people that park and walk children inside not using the crosswalk.
- Please pull away as soon as your child exits your vehicle. Ms. Vining is out there each day to make sure everyone gets inside safely!
- Please be mindful of others in the drop off line and do not block traffic waiting to get into the left lane in order to turn left.
- As much as possible, please have coats, hats, mittens and backpacks on and ready to go before you stop along the curb.
- Finally, students must be able to independently exit the vehicle. If your student needs assistance with backpacks or other items, please park and walk them to the front doors.
You Are Invited to the Walled Lake Schools Community-Wide
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on
Monday, January 15
The 19th annual Walled Lake Schools community-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration is planned for Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walled Lake Northern High School. The celebration will begin with a multicultural dinner from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. with food from a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. During the dinner participants will visit student displays from each of our 19 schools focusing on our theme “Building Empathy in Our World: Understanding and Caring for Each Other”. Our dinner is sponsored by generous support from the PTA and PTSA groups from around our district as well as other contributors.
From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. there will be a program in the auditorium featuring keynote speaker, Caleb White, who is the founder of The Caleb White Project. Caleb will be speaking about this year’s empathy theme, and he will also talk about taking action for Social Justice in today’s world. Several student choirs will perform, students will present their “Express Yourself” projects, and the Walled Lake Schools Friend of Diversity Awards will be presented.
Everyone in the community is invited to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration which is a free program. We are asking everyone to bring a donation of canned food, boxed food, and personal products such as laundry detergent, Kleenex, toilet paper, and shampoo to be donated to the food pantry at Cass Community Social Services in Detroit.
For more information, please contact Alec Bender, co-chairperson of the Walled Lake Schools Diversity Committee, at (248) 956-3432.
