Leyden needs parent input on survey

We need your help! In order to remain compliant with this state requirement, Leyden needs a minimum of 20-percent participation from parents. Input is kept confidential and helps us understand our families and as we make decisions moving forward. We encourage you to please share your feelings, insights, and perspective with us via this survey, which will remain open through March 11.

Leyden celebrates Black History Month

On this final day of Black History Month and we want to leave you with some reading to consider throughout the year:

One of the most popular Young Adult (YA) titles in the Leyden Libraries is Dear Martin by renowned African American writer, Nic Stone. Hear Nic Stone talk about her sequel to this popular novel, Dear Justyce. Link: To Listen

Another popular YA book checked out of the Leyden Libraries is The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas. This book has received much acclaim and has also been made into a motion picture back in 2018. It is a heartbreakingly relevant and powerfully moving tale of a teenage girl named Starr who witnesses the fatal shooting of her best friend, Khalil, by a police officer, for holding a hairbrush. This story not only shows the protests, media frenzy and impact that his death has on Starr, her family and her community, but emphasizes the need to speak up about injustices and start conversations on racism, police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement on a personal level.

Angie Thomas recently came out with the prequel to this book, Concrete Rose. In this book our author revisits Garden Heights seventeen years before the events of The Hate U Give.
