Literacy News

Mrs. Watts

What are we learning this week.....

Focus Skills that our lessons and assessment will be centered around:
-ask and answer questions
-compare and contrast

Students will be taking their unit 2 week 2 test on Tuesday, November 24.

This week in 6th grade literacy we will be learning about the importance of asking and answering questions when reading expository text. Authors compare and contrast text structure to organize ideas as they focus on what is similar or different about two or more ideas, events, people, or situations. Greek and Latin prefixes help explain one strategy for figuring out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by breaking it into parts. By learning familiar Greek and Latin prefixes it can help us to figure out what a word means. We will also will be using our weekly vocabulary words when we speak, when we write, and will be able to recognize and understand them in text we read. The new vocabulary words are pictured below.

Box Tops For Education

Please ask relatives and friends to donate their Box Tops for Education to our classroom. The box tops get turned in and the money from the box tops is spent on materials for our students. It is an easy thing to cut out and save. All donations appreciated.
