Mindfulness Lessons
Nature walks
Being present in nature
A nature walk is a great way to do this by providing opportunity to be mindful and connect ourselves to what is happening around us.
Before you get started on your nature walk everyone should take three deep breaths, notice how their feet feel on the ground, and do a check in of how they are feeling. Are you feeling calm, excited, nervous happy or unsure?
During your walk take mindful pauses and have your child talk about what they hear, what they have observed with their eyes, what they smell, and have them describe objects they have felt. You could have your child bring a notebook and keep track of all they have observed by either writing the words or drawing a picture.
Your walk should end the same way it started by taking three deep breaths, noticing your feet on the ground and doing a quick check in of how you are feeling.
Below I have linked two videos from Cosmic kids (which our JFK kiddos love.) The first is a nature walk and the second is a relaxation while reviewing the five senses.
