What's happening in the stacks?

Update for January

In January our big news was the start of the book club! Our students are reading Far From You by Tess Sharpe. 3 of the students enjoyed it so much that they read ahead and finished the book before the rest of us were even 1/2 way finished! The themes in the book have us talking about lots of life issues. Our tight knit group is really enjoying reading together, having breakfast on Thursdays and just getting to know each other. We have arranged with Tess Sharpe to have a Skype session in February so that we can hear more about the writing process and her inspirations for her book.

Advisory teachers have been a huge help in allowing these students to join the book club. Our English teacher, Mrs. Rebecca Sembrano, even allowed students to use the book club participation as an assignment grade as they explore literary elements in the book. Our next book will be a classic from 1960, To Kill A Mockingbird. We are now encouraging students to sign up for the next round.

Mr. Joseph Furtsch made the most of a morning without Edgenuity by bringing his class in for an impromptu review of our library resources. I love that interaction with an entire class! Before they left, several students checked out books.

Social Media

If you have trouble logging in, stop by the library so Ms. Hawkins can add you to the database. MackinVia is available as an app for iPhone and Android. Listening to an audio book is a great way to pass the time on a trip or in traffic.
