Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
St Patrick's School Masterton 2nd May 2023
TUMUAKI/PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa, nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!
For the month of May, our school virtue is ‘Joy/ Koa’. This will form the basis of school, syndicate and class prayer that take place during the month of May. Three key ideas, as shown on our virtue banner displayed in the school office, that we will be sharing with the children include:
Friendship
Keep smiling
Creating & achieving
Yesterday, at our school assembly we recognised and celebrated Michelle Beaver and her contribution to St Patrick’s School. Michelle, has not only been a staff member she has also been a volunteer, parent and pupil of our school. Her association with the school has lasted over 60 years and it would not be an understatement to say she has had a huge impact on the lives and education of thousands of children. Every school needs a ‘Michelle’ and we are very lucky to have had her and all that she has done.
The morning started with a staff morning tea followed by a school assembly containing haka, singing her favourite songs, speeches, a photo collage and cards from the students. The celebration focused on saying ‘Thank You’ to Michelle rather than farewelling her because although she has retired from full time teacher-aiding she will still be part of our school community on a more part-time basis.
At the end of this term Barbara Williams, Kildare Syndicate teacher and lead teacher of our Enviro schools programme has decided to take a step back from her current full-time teaching position. For terms 3 and 4 of the rest of this year Barbara will still be working here at St Patrick’s in a part-time capacity. In the next few weeks we will organise our staffing to cover this change and as soon as we have plans confirmed we will communicate this to you.
Below, in the Catholic Character section of the school newsletter there is information about our school Sacramental programme. As part of this programme we do offer support for families who would like to have one or more of their children baptised. If this is something you are interested in please contact Chris Connor, Director of Religious Studies, and she will help you organise this.
Today, the whole school enjoyed the first dance session with Jenna from ‘Footsteps Dance Company’. The children all receive a weekly dance session for six weeks and then on Tuesday 13th June we will have a whānau sharing time where you will be able to come and watch what they have learnt - further details to follow.
Each week for the rest of the year we will be sharing a staff biography with the aim of helping you to connect with and learn about the staff who are educating your children here at school. As principal, I felt I should be a role model so I am sharing my biography first with the community. I am sure as the year progresses you will enjoy learning more about our great teaching and support staff.
