Salmon Week 32 Update

May 9th - 13th

Overview of Week

Reading - We have completed the SBAC tests in Reading and Math. This was extremely comprehensive and LONG!!! We are continuing our reading with a myth "How the Night Came from the Sea". Focus will be on generalization (summarizing) and the imagery that the story presents to the reader.

Writing - We will be finishing up our Poetry Unit. I'm in need of a parent that is will to help with collating and binding the students work. This can be done on your schedule and may take a few hours. I would like to have them completed to go home with the students at the end of the year.

Social Studies - We are learning about Lewis and Clark's Travels.

Science - This week in science we started our unit on geology which we’re calling “The Birth of Rocks.” We learned about volcanoes and where they exist in the world. Below I’ve included a link to some amazing pictures of active volcanoes. Show these to your child; it’s guaranteed to be a conversation starter about what they learned!

TALENT SHOW 2016

Dear Students and Parents,

We are happy to announce plans for the annual Ridge View Fourth Grade Talent Show. There will be two different shows; one on Wednesday May 25

th

and one on Thursday May 26

th

starting at 8:30 AM. Participating children will be notified of their performance date by Monday, May 16. Fourth grade parents are welcome to attend.

We encourage a variety of talents including: singing, playing musical instruments, dancing, magic acts, comedy acts, etc. A piano and microphone will be available. If necessary recorded music can be provided by the school. We appreciate your efforts at ensuring the type of song, comedy act, and attire is age appropriate – the more “wholesome” the better. Students may participate in only one act. Performances should be limited to two to three minutes. If students go over a little, that will be okay. Thank you for your understanding with these requests.

Students will be practicing their performances with staff members at noon, or after school if attending Panther’s Den. A piano and microphone will be available. There will be a final run through on Monday or Tuesday (May 23rd or 24

th

). This will provide an opportunity for practice as well as a chance for us to make arrangements for equipment.

Ridge View students and staff are looking forward to this enjoyable event. Thank you for your cooperation.
