Staff Spotlight - Paula Galland

Paula has enjoyed a 40+ year career as an educator in New Jersey and Georgia teaching high school social studies both in the classroom and online, and working as a middle and high school media specialist. She has long been interested in online learning and was one of 500,000 people who took Patrick Crispen's 16 week online Roadmap course in 1994, learning about such early Internet tools as FTP, Gopher, Archie, and Veronica. Though her first computer in 1981 was a Commodore VIC-20, she is a true Mac Addict and is active in her St. Simons Island Apple User Group.

Not only is Paula passionate about technology in education, she is also a huge fan of her husband of 40 years, three grandchildren, and any type of travel. She generally manages to work while traveling and has logged in from spots ranging from the rim of the Grand Canyon, a boat on the Yangtze River, a bar in Positano, to a safari lodge in Kenya.

We appreciate all that you bring to our team Paula!

Club Corner

Book Club (grades 3-5):
The 3-5th Grade book club students are reading for December the fictional story - Zak the Yak By: John Wood. It is an online book that all students can access!

Middle School Book Club:
Half of the club is reading the classic The Diary of Anne Frank, while the other half of the club is reading a book from the fantasy genre, The Red Pyramid. Both novels are historical since Anne Frank deals with World World II and the Holocaust and The Red Pyramid features many historical facts about Ancient Egypt.

High School Book Club:
We have just started the fantasy novel, Poison Study. Club members are enthusiastic about the genre which is very popular these days! Next, we will be reading a classic novel, The Great Gatsby. One of our club members, Raven Evans, shared a children's story she has written called "Rowen and the Great Lego City". It is also of the fantasy genre and involves a child being shrunk and becoming part of a Lego city. He learns some valuable lessons from the other characters in Lego City. Congratulations, Raven and keep on writing.
