Message Reminder from Superintendent Baumann
Secondary families,
As I shared with you last week, Lakeville Area Schools is tentatively planning to bring secondary students back to a Hybrid Learning model. That phased-in transition is tentatively set to begin later this month. However, I also recognize the Hybrid model did not work for everyone this fall. One of our goals all year long has been to bring all of our students back to full time in-person learning, five days a week, as soon as it’s safe to do so. This is the education our students deserve. We are cautiously hopeful the downward trend we are seeing in COVID-19 cases could allow for this, likely sometime after Spring Break. There are pros and cons to both options.
On our current tentative timeline, local case rates may allow us to return to Hybrid learning later this month. This would get students back into classrooms sooner, seeing their classmates and teachers face to face. However, like in the Fall, students would only get in-person contact with teachers two days a week. The middle school hybrid learning schedule would remain the same as in the Fall. The high school hybrid learning schedule will remain mostly the same but may include live teaching on non-in person days.
If we remain in Distance Learning until it is safe enough to return to full-time in-person learning five days a week, our students would receive consistent contact with their peers and teachers five days a week. We have seen that attendance has been stronger during Distance Learning and students are getting more teacher contact time than the Hybrid Learning model provides. However, I do acknowledge that Distance Learning is not working for everyone.
Today, we are reaching out to you for your feedback as we finalize our next transition plan. We want to know if you would prefer to return to Hybrid learning on the tentative schedule communicated last week (Feb. 22 for grades 6-9 and 12; March 8 for grades 10 and 11) or if you would prefer to wait until it is safe to bring back all students to full-time in-person learning five days a week, likely sometime after Spring Break. Please fill out the linked survey to let us know your thoughts.
Please keep in mind that by filling out this survey you are NOT choosing or signing-up for a learning model, you are simply giving us your opinion on what learning model you would prefer as we move forward with our planning.
If you need language assistance to take this survey, please contact one of our school success liaisons or leave a message on the language assistance line: 952-232-3076.
Your feedback is very important and I want to hear your voice. The survey is anonymous and voluntary and will be open through Monday at 11:59 p.m. As I mentioned last week, the secondary transition to Hybrid Learning is only a tentative plan and is subject to change. The results of this survey will be used to help determine our final plan in consultation with our Regional Support Team.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Seniors: Job Shadow Reminder
CLASS of 2021 SENIOR JOB SHADOW: As a component of the Career Portfolio, the job shadow is a required activity for graduation from the Lakeville Area Public Schools. Seniors are typically given the time out of school on Opportunities Day to complete this assignment. This year we will be using March 2nd as the official day set aside for Seniors to do this, or one of the other new alternate activity choices for the Class of 2021. There is some flexibility with this date, but you are not to miss distance learning class time for completion of this activity, so feel free to start your planning during any upcoming time-off from classes.
Please visit the Career Center’s Senior Job Shadow Assignment page for more details, including overall completion timelines and instructions. A link is also included on your Senior Information section off the LSHS home page. If you have any questions or need some assistance, please consult Julie Peterson in the Career Center or check with your Dean. Good luck!
