For Heaven's Sake
Our Lady Queen of Heaven School - March 2020
From the Principal's Desk
Wow! I am so humbled by the outpouring of support shown by all our friends and associates of Our Lady Queen of Heaven School. The auction was an amazing success and of course I would be remiss to not thank all those involved in putting on such a wonderful gathering as well as those that bid to support our efforts. I would like to especially thank our Auction Chair, Mrs. Chavanne Stine, the PTC board, and legions of volunteers who spent countless hours putting together the auction. We are truly blessed to have them share their gifts with us.
As we consider the long term viability of the school, certainly facilities are a critical component of that vision. If you would like the opportunity to become involved in the direction of the school as we move forward and are willing to express ideas in a collaborative environment I would encourage you to contact me. Parental involvement in setting forth the vision for the future of our school is critical.
As we fully immerse ourselves in the season of lent we have a number of opportunities for our students to grow closer in their relationship with Christ. Reconciliation services, vocations awareness activities and prayer services in the next few weeks will provide opportunities for our community to grow in solemn faith as we anticipate our Lord’s victory over death. My prayer is that our students continue to live this reality and deepen their desire to follow the path to that union with the heart of our Lord, and thus be Christ for all!
In Christ,
Trevor Donnelly
Principal

Jump Rope For Heart!
On March 18, 2020 our school’s P.E. program is holding a Jump Rope for Heart Event (1st-6th grades) to raise funds for the American Heart Association.
Jump Rope for Heart will teach jump rope skills, the importance of physical activity, and community service. Many times in the past, that OLQH held the Jump Rope for Heart event, the Louisiana American Heart Association recognized Our Lady Queen of Heaven School, as one of the “Top Turners” in terms of donations made from schools throughout the state. In 2018, OLQH School donated an amazing $18,000!
Information will be sent home with students. Please make sure students turn in their envelopes to participate in the event. We thank you in advance for your support of this great cause! Click here for more information!
Congratulations!

Community Coffee Cash Program
The Community Cash For Schools® program supports participating schools that collect Proofs of Purchase from Community® products. These product Proofs of Purchase can be redeemed for cash that each school can spend to improve their school and fund the things they need. Schools can choose to allocate the money toward new textbooks, computers or even events. For decades, Community Cash for Schools has helped participating schools generate millions of dollars within the program.

The Art World
There are quite a few new members of Artsonia's Hall of Fame this month. Our new member in Kindergarten is Braxton Hylton. First Grade new members are Beau James, Kinley Leger, Jax Giaimis, and Relic Armentor. In Second Grade we have Hudson Collins, Strason Istre, and Emmanuel Mouton. Our new member of the Hall of Fame in Third Grade is Charli Hoffpauir. Our latest members in Fourth Grade are Crosby Kingery, Adrien Allen, Ellie Gage, and Eloise Thompson. Congratulations, Everyone!
In Kindergarten we are starting on our Cracked Easter Egg Families. There is an Egg-Mama, an Egg-Daddy, Egg-Siblings, and Egg-Pets. You are going to love them!! In First Grade we are going to make stained glass windows for Easter (except they are made with construction paper, wax paper, and tissue paper). Each will have a cross in the center. They will be lovely for the Easter Season. Second Graders will finish up their Robot (Frooter) on one of the planets in our solar system. We will then have a lesson on weaving and weave an Easter Egg place mat for the Easter dinner table. Below you will find pictures of my beautiful Second Graders wearing their Mardi Gras Masks that they made in class to the Kindergarten Parade.
Third graders are finishing up their Raccoon pictures which will be on display in the hallway of the Fine Arts Building. Next, we will draw a "real" bunny on a beautiful Spring Day for Easter. Fourth Graders have had an Art History Lecture on the famous artist Pablo Picasso, and we have learned all about his life and artwork. The students are going to make their own Picasso Portrait which they will color with cray pas (oil pastels). It is the only time the students will hear a teacher say, "Weird is Good!". You never hear that in Math class.
In two weeks I will begin with the 5th Grade Rotation Class and we will begin with a still life drawing of two stuffed frogs (they are really cute!).
In the 8th Grade Fine Arts Survey Class they are finishing their Abstracts in the style of Mr. Jay Bowdon. Mr. Bowdon will return and critique their works online on the Artsonia website. We have an upcoming Art Study on the Romantic period in Art. We will also do drawings of some of the statues around the church and a lesson on Photography. So much to do...so little time.
Again we are busy creating, making messes, and having FUN!

asbestos statement
Each year parents must be informed that the school has complied with all national standards regarding asbestos on campus. Certain vinyl floors and the panels that are below the quad windows will have to be handled appropriately if ever replaced. Our report indicates that existing asbestos is in good condition and we have the highest rating given. You are welcome to examine the asbestos file in the office if desired.
