Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Dress casual on Friday!
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday with your friends and families. It has been a long and productive term with the students having rich learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. It’s time now for them to charge their batteries for the new term ahead. Thank you for working in partnership with us over the last term.
Goodbye to our old rooftop and patio playgrounds!
As we leave the school on Friday, the contractors will come into school to begin the demolition work on the two playgrounds upstairs. This is exciting as it officially starts the process of the new playground redevelopment project. This will be a lengthy process with a lot of preparation work needed. We expect to have new outdoor classrooms and playground areas unveiled about this time next year, if not before!. Over the next year, we will run different arrangements for play and lunch times to ensure all children have access to the downstairs playground areas.
HONK the Musical
Congratulations to the cast of ‘HONK the Musical’ who put on a wonderful show on Saturday night for friends and family. The children’s commitment to practising lines and lengthy lyrics was commendable. It was great to see their enjoyment of acting, their amazing talent and the joy they got out of being on stage in front of an audience. Thanks to the parents and staff for your support and to Mr. Benzie, who directed the show. A big thanks to Janet Lee and Chau Kwok for coordinating the costumes.
Junior Choir
Sadly I missed the Junior Choir performance yesterday, but heard it was sensational! Singing songs from a number of countries in different languages with actions too, and singing both tunefully and confidently. It sounds like the audience were very impressed and entertained. Many thanks to Mrs. Sexton and Ms. Scholten for teaching the junior choir. They have really loved it!
We’ve still got some exciting events to go!
Years 4-6 had their class parties yesterday and Years 1-3 will be full of excitement as they celebrate the end of the term with their class parties today.
St. John’s Cathedral Lunchtime Concert
The Senior Choir will be joining the Hong Kong Singers Adult Choir at the St. John’s Cathedral Lunchtime Carol Concert today at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to come along and support our talented choir as they perform at this very special venue. (Choir please wear school uniform - no sports uniform)
St. John's Cathedral is located on No. 4-8 Garden Rd. (Central) for those families who wish to join us.
Christmas Carols Concert/Sing-a-long
Our Annual Christmas Carols Festivities will take place on Thursday December 13th at 2:00 pm in the Lower Covered Playground. The Choir and Orchestra will lead this festive event. This is always a wonderful event. You are all welcome to attend.
Farewell and thanks
At this time of the year, some of our families and staff move on to other places around the world. We wish them all the very best in their new schools, workplaces and in their new country.
Final Assembly
Our final assembly for the term will take place in the lower playground from 11:00 am -12.00 pm on Friday. During this assembly, we will bid farewell to the students and staff who are leaving us and also wrap up the year with some lovely singing and celebrations. You are welcome to join us. School will close at 12.00 midday
Kind regards and happy holidays!
Brenda

PTA News
Uniform Update
The PTA Uniform shop has ceased trading and we still have limited quantities of stock in some sizes. As a ‘thank you’ to our families for all your support, we are offering items of the old uniform to students in Years 3 to 6 free of charge. Please click here for the Google Order Form. Orders will be filled on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Please be reminded that these items cannot be worn next school year. From August 2019, all Glenealy students will transition to the new school uniform.
The PTA is committed to responsible recycling and re-use of our old uniforms. If you are leaving the school at the end of this term, please leave any second hand donations outside the PTA Shop for collection, before noon on Friday 14th December.
As the weather has cooled, please remember that we have fitting samples of all new winter uniform items. Contact Becky at pta@glenealy.net to arrange a fitting or if you have any queries regarding uniforms.
You can order the new uniform online from www.schooluniform.hk and delivery will be to your home.

Christmas ideas.
If your child is hoping for technology based presents over Christmas, a consideration for any budding inventor could be to receive a Micro:bit processor. These are very affordable pocket sized computers which have programmable buttons as well as an inbuilt compass and accelerometer allowing children to be creative.
This link shows examples of student inventions using micro:bits and Lego.
Year 5 Glenealy students will be using these tiny computers in their upcoming unit and they are also used by Island School students in their Design and Technology lessons. Other alternatives that Santa may want to consider are Arduino products or Raspberry-Pis.
