HHS Newsletter
End of 1st Quarter
News & Notes
Good morning, Herrin High School Families!
I hope this quarterly newsletter finds you well. It is hard to believe that the end of the quarter is today. The school year is progressing rapidly. It is amazing to see the students at school every day and adjusting quickly to a "normal" schedule. When we look at the freshmen, their last experience with everyday, all-day school was 7th grade. For sophomores, 8th grade, etc.
Homecoming was a great experience all-around. The participation for students, faculty, and staff was amazing. The dance's relocation to the Herrin Sports Complex worked well too. Luckily, the weather cooperated.
Teachers will finalize 1st quarter grades on Wednesday, October 20. We will distribute quarterly grades to students during Thursday's advisory class. We calculate semester grades by averaging the quarters with the final exam.
If you have not followed us on social media, please do so. We have flooded our pages with pictures of HHS's events and the students' return to school. We are excited to announce that our Activities & Athletics Department has developed their own Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. You can find them by searching for "Herrin Athletics & Activities Department."
Above all else, we appreciate your continued support. Our faculty and staff are here to help in any way we can, so please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
HHS Semester Exams
We will be working with a committee of parents, students, and teachers to develop our guidelines for the spring semester. Please stay tuned for additional information.
Thursday, October 28, 2021 P/T/S Conferences
One great change this year is our band will perform during this time.
Discipline Procedures
The great thing about the following information is that most of students and you will never need to be familiar with them. That is in large part to our relationship and the maturity of our students at Herrin High School.
- Tardies result in progressive discipline. It is important for students to be in their classes, seated when the bell rings.
- After the 5th absence in a semester, a doctor's note is required for the absences after the 5th to be "excused." If a note is not received, your child will be "unexcused," and placed on our "U-List," which makes them ineligible for extracurricular activities, and referred to truancy.
- Student cellphones are to remain silenced in lockers from 8:10 AM to 2:58 PM each day. We will also provide counseling support for habitual offenders.
- Vapes (vaping) are (is) not permitted on campus. Students found doing so will have the vape confiscated and an automatic assignment to in-school suspension.
