Psychology Club at the Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome!

The High School Psychology Club has grown to almost 80 members and the impact they are making is huge! Every year they volunteer for numerous events around the Region - Christmas at the ARC, spring clean up at Tall Tree Arboritum with United Way, Fall Fest at our own ELC and so much more! This summer/fall the students participated in the Annual Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome. They helped organize and set up in the morning and enjoyed the walk and conversations into the afternoon. This experience gave each student a better understanding of how to organize such events and the impact that they can make! Great job Psych Club!

Food Drive for our Hobart Food Pantry

Our local Hobart Food Pantry is one of the few food pantries that do not receive funding from the government or organizations. Our community is fed and helped by the donations that our Hobart community gives. It is such an important food drive! Every fall the Hobart Food Pantry hosts this drive in preparation for the upcoming winter and holidays. This event has great importance as the need for food in our community is growing! Our students from the JROTC, Key Club, DECA, and Builders Club come together over 2 weekends and make all of this possible. They hand deliver bags to many homes in Hobart and return the following week to pick up all of the donations. After they are dropped off at the pantry, the crew works diligently to organize and stock. It is a big job that works flawlessly thanks to the help from our SCOH students and clubs! If you are interested in donating supplies or volunteering your time, contact the Hobart Food Pantry at (219) 947-7779.

Future Brickie Evelyn and her Little Free Library

In 2009, a gentleman from Wisconsin built a model of a 1-room schoolhouse to pay tribute to his mother who was a teacher. He filled it with books, placed it in his front yard, and encouraged anyone and everyone to read! A few years later the "Little Free Libraries" became an independent nonprofit corporation that has over 40,000 registered libraries worldwide. The goal? "To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity, and wisdom across generations!"

Now thanks to an inspiring little girl, Evelyn, Hobart will have one too! It will be located on Water street just north of Joan Martin Elementary. All are encouraged to stop by, grab a book, leave a book and enjoy a book! Make sure to give a shout out to little 3 year old Evelyn who, because of her experience with the little libraries, has already started to inspire more readers! You rock, Evelyn!

Screenagers Movie

Wednesday, Nov. 16th, 6pm

2211 East 10th Street

Hobart, IN

Come enjoy the FREE hour long movie, Screenagers! Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens! She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time - friction she knew all too well.

In Screenagers, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

It is an hour long movie that will be great for many of us! Open for all ages to attend, however it is recommended for those 10 and up. Open discussion will immediately follow. If you want to know more, visit http://www.screenagersmovie.com/
