A note from your Coordinator
September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, as well as, Suicide Prevention Month. CSH has been sharing information on social media and school health walls about these topics. We are also excited to share that the ORS Turkey Trot is on the books for November 16th! Read the information below to find out more about these topics, our monthly contest, and how to sign up for the Turkey Trot!

September Contest- Everyone earns points this month!
This month, everyone who reads the newsletter and emails the answers to the questions below to mkwade@ortn.edu will earn 75 points for their school towards the ORS Wellness Cup! In addition, the first 4 people to respond will receive a gift card from Coordinated School Health.
1) What is the overweight/obesity percentage for Oak Ridge Schools?
2) What is one warning sign of suicide?
3) When is the ORS Turkey Trot this year?
Wellness Cup Standings
Oak Ridge Preschool is leading the Wellness Cup Standings
The ORS Wellness Cup standings from the Bingo Challenge are as follows:
1st Place- ORPS- 300 points
2nd Place- Woodland -200 points
3rd Place- ORHS/SAB- tied with 100 points.
Points will be tallied in October with the final Bingo Challenge Results and added to this total. By participating in the September Newsletter contest you can earn more points. Look for future activities and events to help your school.
The school with the most points at the end of the year will earn the Wellness Cup Trophy and prizes!
September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
Currently, the state of Tennessee's Childhood overweight and obesity Percentage is 39.7%. In the 2019-2020 school year, Oak Ridge Schools had an overweight/obesity percentage of 36.4%. Unfortunately, we are afraid we might see the rates for 2020-2021 school year jump even higher due to the pandemic. Read below how you can help combat this epidemic in our community.
ORS Annual Turkey Trot is back!
One way we can help combat obesity in our community is by encouraging our children to participate in the ORS Annual Turkey Trot. This year's event will be in-person on November 16th at A.K. Bissell Park (next to the Civic Center) for students in Pre K-5th Grades. See the flyer below or scan the QR code from your phone or device to learn how to register (no walk up participation is allowed this year).
