Message from the office.

Another wet week at BCE, but we still seem to find the fun each day. I hope everyone is safe and dry through this next storm. It does seem like it is none stop these days. I am hopeful to see the sunlight at the end of the tunnel :)

Don't forget the time change this weekend.

Report cards came home today with each student. Please take a moment to look over your student's progress this last trimester. We are so proud of every student we have here at BCE. If you have any questions about your student's progress, don't hesitate to contact your teacher. Below is a message from Mrs. Wilson, our reading intervention teacher. She is an amazing resource and wanted to ensure parents know more about each reading level.

Also, the annual district survey is out. The feedback we get from the survey is really important to all of us at the district and site. You will see that we have a little competition in our district, so your help completing the survey could earn our site a little extra money. So please take a moment to complete it.

We have had several cases of pink eye over the past 2 weeks. Just be on the lookout with your kids since we have so many shared spaces around campus.

Please remember that next Friday is a teacher Professional Development Day, so NO SCHOOOL for students.

Have a great weekend, everyone!!

District Annual Survey-

Survey Link

SLVUSD is looking to gather feedback from our families regarding our Academic, Communication, and Learning Environment goals. We anticipate the survey will take from five to seven minutes to complete. The valuable feedback that you submit will provide the district and the site with important information as we plan for the 2023-24 school year.

The surveys will be available through Friday, March 31st.

Not only will your participation provide us with valuable feedback, but it is also an opportunity for your child's school to earn some extra funds. As a little incentive, the schools will receive additional site discretionary funds for student/teacher resources based on the percentage of parents that complete the survey for their site.

The incentive is based on participation percentages as follows:

10% = $1,000
20% = $2,000
30% = $3,000
40% = $4,000
50% and above = $5,000

In addition, the site with the highest percentage of complete surveys will receive an additional $5,000.

All SLV schools are excited to engage in a little fun competition. Each site is ready for the challenge and believes that their parents will achieve the highest percentage of completed surveys.

Mrs. Wilson's Corner- Literacy support and ideas

Greetings BCE families!

Welcome to Mrs. Wilson’s Corner! Jen Wilson here, the BCE Reading Specialist and Interventionist. As you go through your student’s report cards with them, you will undoubtedly see their independent reading level (F&P) and I wanted to reach out to you regarding these. Reading is a complex and developmental process in that all students learn at different rates. Reading with fluency, demonstrating understanding, using decoding skills, and writing meaningful responses to literature are all ways that your child demonstrates competence in reading. There are many ways in which students progress is measured, their F&P level being one of these. Because we know that reading is much more complex than a stated level, we at BCE wanted to provide more detailed information on what those letters mean in terms of the characteristics of texts at a particular level and what readers are actively doing at those levels.

I highly encourage you, with all my reading superpowers, to look up your student's level, and peruse the characteristics and behaviors of your reader at their independent level. You can use this information to support your reader and even look at the next level they are working towards (instructional level) to encourage them. Click this link for access to the document.

We are honored to be partners with you and your reader on this journey. Thank you and may you and your family snuggle up with a good book this weekend!

Registration for 23/24 is Open

Please come by the office if you plan to register a new Bear for the 23/24 school year. Registration is open, and knowing how many new students we have early is crucial in determining whether we have adequate staff.

5th Grade Parents!!

Hello 5th Grade Parents!

We have some fun opportunities for you to have you students featured in the yearbook. First, we want to see your adorable BABIES!! You can upload your favorite baby picture to TreeRing here or, after you log in, go to Content, and at the top of the page, where it says SCHOOL PHOTOS, make sure to select BABY PHOTOS to get it in the correct folder.

Second, we have a page for dedications from their parents or guardians to your students. Give them some words of encouragement and let them know your feelings about them growing up and moving on to Middle School. You can send those here to make sure they are included.

Please send these ASAP! We have a deadline to make sure the yearbooks get printed in time to get them to the students by the end of the school year.

Read-a-Thon

Please make sure you get all your minutes logged by 3/12. So excited to see all the reading done by our BCE Bears.
