Our Maple Warriors Glow Run kicked off this past Monday with an exciting Pep Rally, and we are thrilled about this year’s program! We’ve asked the fundraising experts at Booster to power our two-week Fun Run program, making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more FUN. Our Fun Run includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event that focuses on character while helping our school raise much-needed funds.
This year, our entire school is raising funds for student programs like a book room to support small group reading, online student resources, and technology for all students to access! Our goal is to raise $15,000 and we need YOUR help!
Here’s how you can support Maple:
- Register your student on funrun.com by searching “Maple Warriors.” Once you do, your student will receive a FREE GIFT just for being registered. Then, use funrun.com to log pledges for your child.
- Reach out to sponsors. Every student’s goal is to connect with 10 sponsors, and with funrun.com’s smart sharing tools, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get pledges is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks, you can create a custom Student Star Video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather pledges, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card.
- Ask your child about the MindSpark: Wild West Character Lesson of the Day! This year’s theme combines S.T.E.A.M. skills with character-building. In this thrilling Sci-Fi-Western theme, your students and the MindSpark kids must compete in six “Character Duels” to rescue Dr. Shock. Along the way, they’ll learn about Honesty, Gratitude, Generosity, Kindness, and Humility. Join along by watching the fun character videos with your child on funrun.com.
- Come to the Glow Run on March 12! All students are included in the Glow run, regardless of financial participation. Remember, students will be running 30-35 laps, and we would love for you to come out and cheer!

Technology and Innovation News with Mrs. Freeman
Kindergarten
These students have continued working on keyboard letter location and learned the 3 main steps of the design process - Think, Make, Improve. We used the design process to build trees that would hold letters.
First Grade
Students in first grade have been building our habitat dioramas. We are writing scripts for our Green Screen videos. Please plan to make time to see these during our Student Showcase on March 26!
Second Grade
Second grade students are starting a new unit learning all about circuits. We will be making instruments this month that are played using our circuit knowledge.
Third Grade
Students in third grade are starting a new design project where we will build prosthetics for animals in need. To prepare for this project, we spent some time learning about the different cardboard attachment techniques.
Fourth Grade
Fourth graders are now finished up with our Battlebots project and a winning team has been awarded the trophy! All teams did a great job and should be proud of their efforts.
Fifth Grade
These students are busy working on their arcade games for the Global Cardboard Challenge. These will be on display for the Student Showcase on March 26, please plan to come see them!
Sixth Grade
Students in the last group spent the last week working on our teamwork skills, listening, and empathy skills. We have started a video project about how having a growth mindset can help us!

Art with Mrs. Haddock
6th Grade
Welcome Team 3!!! They are off to a strong start creating Zentangles as invented textures. They began one point perspective drawings. They are impressing me with their creative ideas.
5th Grade
It has been tricky getting all of those Create-tures finished, but they are turning out to be amazing. I can’t wait to see the finished habitats in the library. Most of the 5th grade students started their fibers project. They are stitching a symbol on burlap representing their occupation or region associated with their field trip to School of Economics.
4th Grade
Students are working with organic shapes. They are given the opportunity to collage, draw, or watercolor in many ways to create art with these organic shapes. We are focusing on art with Flow which is a relaxed and meditated state of creating art.
3rd Grade
We are finishing up those paper mache masks. We are learning about Zentangle art doodling. We will start creating textures and prints after our spring break.
2nd Grade
You can find lots of Maple 2nd Grade artwork at the Mid Continent Public Library!!!! For Youth Art Month, I have set up many ceramic initials. Check them out! Students are working on an Egyptian Art Unit. Students will design their own Cartouche using Hieroglyphics. They will also create their own pyramid including traps and curses. Beware those who enter.
1st Grade
Students have finished clay animals and paintings that accompany them. They are happy to work back in choice art as we have uploaded artworks into Artsonia. Look for these masterpieces.
Kindergarten
We are carefully looking at ourselves in the mirror. You won’t believe the details Kindergarten artists are discovering. We are even learning artists can leave out details that could distract the viewer.
Music with Mrs. Hill
In less than a month the first graders will be having their informance on April 7th. An informance is an informal performance where students perform 2-3 songs for their parents and then have an opportunity to teach their parents a song. The first graders are getting very excited for this event!
The kindergarteners are continuing to work hard on learning the difference between fast and slow tempos and will soon start learning the songs for their informance at the end of April.
The fourth and fifth graders have wrapped up their previous units and started working on their musical "Pirates!" that will take place on Tuesday, April 28th at 7pm in the Performing Arts Center. They are getting very good at their piratey "Arrrrrs!"
The sixth grade team two has been a lively bunch to have in the music room. They have been incredibly enthusiastic about starting bucket drumming and have shown a lot of hard work in the two weeks I have had them. I look forward to seeing where they will be by their performance in May!
