A message from the Superintendent
Weekly Communication
June 6, 2023
Dear PV Families,
The final week of school for students in upon us! As a reminder, students will have early dismissal on Wednesday through Friday of this week (June 7, 8, and 9) for half day inservice. The final day of school for students is Friday, June 9.
As a follow up, in the last superintendent message we shared a parent survey to garner your thoughts on school police officers. Thank you to those who participated. At the time we shared the survey, we planned to also administer a similar survey to students in grades 5-11. In response to feedback, we have decided not to administer the student survey at this time. We will revisit administering a student survey in the fall.
Lastly, it has been a relief to many of us to have moved through this year in a way that is something closer to the normal we know. Our students and staff appear to have had a positive 2022-23 school year. Re-engaging with our parent community to be more active and hands-on in the schools and on field trips has supported the school experiences of our students.
As a district, we also appreciate the ways we engage with parents and our community using various social media platforms. Facebook is the most popular and allows us to quickly and easily share information to a large group of the PV Community. Our posts are intended to provide information, showcase our students and schools, and highlight the many activities happening throughout the district. The messaging is intended to unite us through celebration. The Perkiomen Valley School District's mission is to cultivate inclusive school communities where all students feel welcome and safe and empowered to grow. Often, we receive positive and encouraging comments in response to our posts. However, at times, the comments are negative in nature and lead to more of a community divide than sense of unity. I am asking that we all consider how we can be more tolerant and gain a deeper understanding of and respect for the diversity among us. While I expect that our community may have different views on various topics, it is imperative that we participate in healthy discourse and engage in respectful and constructive communication.
Please note, as a public school district, we are obligated to uphold the First Amendment Right to Free Speech. We are not permitted to remove comments on our social media sites as they are considered public domain. On our district Facebook pages, we have posted rules for engagement. It is our expectation that all participants on our page adhere to these guidelines. They can be viewed here.
Thank you for your consideration. Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara A. Russell
