Tisch's Tidbits
Welcome Back! I hope you all had a wonderful break. My family traveled to Elkhart for Thanksgiving and then were there for my new nephew's arrival! Cameron is the second nephew in the family, so Brycen was pretty excited to have another boy. It may be awhile before they can golf together though. :)
Upcoming
We have a few weeks before we enjoy some time off, but we are working hard to wrap up some units. I'm hoping to get in the 4th unit math test before break. In addition, we are wrapping up our science unit with our "Save the Penguins" unit next week. It is a hands on approach while learning about convection, conduction, and radiation focusing on solving a worldly problem. We will then be testing over this unit, so be on the lookout for a study guide soon. The entire class ROCKED their last science quiz with EVERYONE meeting mastery. Whoop! Whoop!
Absent
Just a note that I will be absent December 11 and 12 as I will be attending a conference in Indianapolis. I believe I will have the same guest teacher both days, but make a note to contact the main office on those days if there are any changes. Mr. Gabriel will still be here teaching away! We will celebrate him on December 13 and wish him well as he heads off to a new student teaching experience.
For the Love of Reading
This is a time of year when we think of others. In the spirit of giving and reading, your child brought home a name of a fellow classmate along with types of books, authors, genres, etc. they love to read. The kids decided they want to keep the names a secret, so when they open the wrapped book, they have to decide who it is from during the Winter Party. After purchasing a book, please wrap it in any type of paper, write the child's name of who it is to and three clues about who it is from. This will help the recipient try to figure it out by using their inferring skills. :) We'd like for all of the books to be in by December 19.
Pajama Drive
We are still collecting new pajamas for The Villages. There are boxes near the cafe to place the donations. There's nothing better than warm and comfy jammies in the winter time!
Chaucie's Place
Zionsville Community Schools are partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™ to our Kindergarten, 2, and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
Representatives from Chaucie's Place will be meeting with kindergarten, second and fourth grade classrooms on Monday, December 4th. Notices with opt-out information will go home TODAY to be returned by Friday, December 1st. If you have specific questions, please contact School Counselor Lori Karnuta at lkarnuta@zcs.k12.in.us or visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
