Reminders about Remote Learning!
Parents, please provide the following for your student:
- Provide a distraction-free place for your child to learn. Classrooms are noisy places, so it doesn't have to be as quiet as a library, but it should be free from distractions. Perhaps try a kitchen table, a dining room table, a place where students will have a working space to write or draw, and good internet connectivity. Try to avoid using the bedroom if possible, so that students are not distracted by wanting to return to bed to nap. If utilizing a bedroom, create a "school space" so that students understand the difference between energy levels required to relax and energy levels required to actively learn.
- Students should be fully dressed and ready to learn, with cameras on and mics muted waiting for teacher instruction at 9:15. It is more important than ever that teachers be able to see students face-to-face to check for understanding and for students to maintain the physical connection with their teachers. Teachers will be utilizing collaborative technology tools to allow students to speak face-to-face in whole groups, small groups and for any academic interventions.
- Please adhere to the standard school day schedule, with breakfast around 9:00, lunches will be scheduled by the student's individual teacher, and of course snack time.
- During scheduled breaks (lunch, recess, snack) encourage your child to go outside if feasible, or to have a tech-free break. Fresh air and physical movement is important to maintain good focus when your child returns to instructional sessions. Whenever possible encourage a break outdoors and have your child get some fun movement in!
The same rules apply for students during remote learning as they do for in-person instruction. If your child will miss logging in for any reason please let your classroom teacher and Ms. Carriera know. Classroom attendance is taken twice daily by teachers.
If your child is sick and cannot participate in instruction, please let your teacher, Ms. Carriera, and our school nurse, Mrs. Essig know. We are always here to support you and your child.
