Genius Hour

Beginning after break 5th grade will be working on a research project using the Genius Hour format so kids can choose their topic and final product.

If you're not familiar with Genius Hour, there are a ton of resources available. The concept stemmed from Google's 20% time when they allow employees to work on projects of interest for 20% of their work time.

Check out the video below for a quick overview!

What is Genius Hour? - Introduction to Genius Hour in the Classroom

Lego Robotics

We have two 5th grade students that have agreed to explore our Lego robotics kits during lunch recess. These kits were purchased this summer and are similar to the Lego kits that are being used by Mr. Short at Jim Falls. After we have explored these kits we hope to be able to share their possibilities with teachers!

Technology Assessment

Our 3rd and 5th grade students will be taking a 21st Century Skills assessment this winter/spring. All students in 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade across the district will be taking this assessment. The results are shared with principals and teachers as requested. Our students took this assessment last year and results were discussed at the district level and used to help create our district scorecard under the Growth pillar.

Library Skills

This month in library skills we will be working on:

Kindergarten: Golden Archer Award nominees

1st grade: Golden Archer Award nominees

2nd grade: Golden Archer Award nominees

3rd grade: Google Docs, mini research

4th grade: Big6 Wisconsin research project

Book Fair

We will be having the Scholastic Book Fair available during conferences this winter. It will be open during evening and daytime conferences. It will not be open during the school day but classes will be able to visit during library skills that week.
