Veteran's Day Luncheon
Message from the Principal
Thanksgiving is an occasion for all of us to take time to enjoy our families and give thanks. As the Thanksgiving break approaches take time to pause, reflect, and appreciate all of the things that are taken for granted whether at home or school. I know one of the things we sometimes don't do enough of is give ourselves credit for the difference we are making in the lives of students. Just today, I ran into the mother of 2014 graduate Taylor Daniels and she profusely thanked us for all that we do; Taylor at the ripe age of 20 is getting ready to purchase his first home. Also this week, Denise Duzick and Shauna Kelly met with a graduate from the Aviation Program who wanted to give back to the school. Below are thoughts from Denise:
When Schumann Theodat was an Aviation student at our school fourteen years ago he could have never predicted the path his life would take. With very little money and support, he doubted his potential to complete the rigorous program. Tony Singleton and our Financial Aid staff had other ideas. They saw his talent and determination and found several resources to provide the much needed funds for him to attend. As a result, his life took a positive turn as a role model for his wife and children, and as Team Leader at Parker Hannifin Corporation. Shumann never forgot what happened here those many years ago. When he found a policy at his company that would provide matching funds to LWTC, he made a personal donation to establish a scholarship fund to assist deserving Aviation students with the very expensive testing fees at the completion of their programs. Shumann said he wanted to give back what had been given to him. One of the most rewarding aspects of our jobs is to hear these stories of success. Congratulations to Shumann and to everyone who played a role in his positive experience at Lorenzo Walker Technical College!
Also this week. our very own Jorge Suarez who works with us and who many years ago completed the ELCATE program with Gracie Somoza and the Computer Systems program with Jack Izbicki got married to Yanelis Sardinas a Massage Therapy graduate from several years ago. We wish them much happiness and many years of wedded bliss.
Congratulations October Staff Members of the Month
