News From the Band Room

Big picture

Week #4

Hi Folks - The band came out swinging with a great home opening performance this past Friday night. The staff and I all agreed that it was their best performance yet! I've posted drone footage of the show on Schoology for the kids to view and comment on for an assignment grade by Tuesday period 4. If you want to see the videos, ask your kids to show you on their iPads.

This week we will be performing in our full band uniforms again. Please make sure your child has their Dinkles marching shoes, a pair of long BLACK SOCKS, and their show T-shirt and band shorts for underneath. They will also need the following items for the stands: The newly issued baseball cap, water bottle, folio and duffle bag. Band members ONLY may stay after school in the band room. Students must remain in the band room until we head over to the stadium. If your child will be coming home on the bus or driving home immediately after school, they must report back by 5pm.

The boosters will be serving a meal starting at 4pm. Inspection is 5:15 in full uniform. We will head over to the stadium early and practice some stands tunes before the game.

I understand there are some other athletic events going on Friday after school. Please communicate with your coach and make arrangements to be here for the game. At the very latest, halftime to perform the show.

As always, if you have any questions, please email Mr. Fair

Marching Tacos

The band boosters will be serving Marching Tacos on Friday beginning at 4pm.

Band Booster Meeting

There will be a booster meeting in the band room on Tuesday night starting at 6:30pm. Please attend if you are able. We are headed into the busiest time of our season and can use as many volunteers as possible.

Pick-up After Events

Just for clarification, students should be picked up immediately following all events the band attends. The pick-up location at the high school is on the front driveway at the band doors (door #28). For away football games, the staff will alert you and the students via Remind on the bus when we are approximately 20 minutes away from the school. Please park on the front lawn or district administration parking lot, NOT along the front driveway to accommodate the buses and band trailer pulling in. Once the buses have left the driveway, you are more than welcome to pull up to the door.

Please make sure you have the proper arrangements made to transport your child home after we return. The band staff cannot leave until every child has left the school campus.

Help Needed

On Saturday, September 28, 2019, the music department will be hosting the LLMEA County Chorus Auditions here at ELCO High School. In order for these auditions to run smoothly, Mrs. Fair and I are in need of adult volunteers to help manage the audition rooms, director's room, and lunch for the students in the cafeteria. The auditions should be concluded by 1pm. All volunteers must have their clearances on file with the school district. If you are able to help out, please contact Mrs. Fair for more information.

Second Apparel Order

Back by popular demand...The band boosters are currently running a second band apparel order. Hard copies of the order forms have already been passed out to the band members, however, if they lost it, forgot to give it to you, or you would like to secretly acquire some band swag as a gift, CLICK HERE to download a copy. Deadline for submitting orders is Friday, September 13th. If you would like to order as a gift, please drop off the order with payment to the main high school office to be placed in my mailbox or drop it off with the boosters at the meeting next Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30pm in the high school band room.

Attendance Policy

I've had a number of questions regarding attendance at football games and other band performances. It is my hope that all band members will attend all of the performances posted on the schedule during the marching season. It is very difficult to perform at our best when there are members missing. Each performance is worth a grade for band. Students should not miss a performance except in cases of illness, death in the family, or religious exception. I realize many of the band members are also participants in fall sports. It is the responsibility of the parents to make sure that their child has transportation to the football game after a sporting event in order to perform for halftime. They may even march the show in their athletic uniform if necessary. This requires planning and preparation ahead of time ensuring your child has their uniform, instrument, music, and any accessories ready to go or brought to the game by another band member.
