Skiing in Gym! Note from Mr. Mosley!
This week, students started the Nordic Skiing unit. All students are expected to have snow pants, coats, boots, hats, and gloves in order to go onto the snow. There isn't an alternative activity, so any student who doesn't participate will receive a zero for their participation. Students who can't participate will be expected to go outside with the class and watch as their supervision needs to come from Physical Education.
Please make sure that your child has their snow pants, coats, boots, hats, and gloves. The students will be emailed on their school email to announce any cancellations of skiing, so please encourage your student(s) to be familiar with accessing their school email on their iPad.
Reading & Language Workshop
Writing Workshop
Math Workshop
Mathematicians have expanded their knowledge of fractions into adding and subtracting with them this week! They have recognized the rule of common denominators. When the denominators are the same, one either adds or subtracts the numerators. Next week mathematicians will move into adding and subtracting mixed numbers (a whole number AND a fraction). Continue to discuss fractions in your daily lives while eating pizza, cutting sub sandwiches or a cake! If you are recognizing your mathematician is having difficulties with knowing basic multiplication facts have you thought about supporting their learning with an on-line game? This on-line game shouldn’t be downloaded on their school issued iPad, but we know many families have other digital devices. Look to support your mathematician’s basic fact (multiplication and addition) recall by playing an on-line game.

Six Flags Reading Program
For completing 6 hours of reading outside of school time students in kindergarten through grade 5 are eligible to earn a free ticket for Six Flags Great America. There is a NEW feature this year - electronic Reading Logs. Adults will register and log their child(ren)’s reading time into an online reading log directly on Six Flags’ website. Families will have the ability to track their child’s progress during the program. Also NEW this year is an extended program deadline of April 16th, leaving more time to complete the reading minutes.
Register using this link:
You will need the teacher code for each child that you register
There are no reading logs to return this year; everything will be done online. Tickets will be distributed by teachers in mid-May, once the tickets have been sent by Six Flags.
Please note: Six Flags does not allow 4K students to participate in this program.
