A Message from the Principal

Lauren Meeks

September 21, 2018

Based on feedback from the 2018 Parkside Community Engagement Survey, I have decided to try out a new form of communication with our community. I am excited to use Smore as a communication tool moving forward this year.

Smore offers so much more than an email can. Using Smore allows me to share important information, pictures, videos, links, forms, and much more with our community. With Smore, we can now give you a window into what our days look like at Parkside Elementary!

I'd love to get your feedback on our new an improved Message from the Principal. You can give any feedback here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScc8YYlv2GRumz_g4zgCFyUshFZcdA6eQJTMrnwAOKjJf6XHA/viewform

I hope you enjoy the new layout of our new communication tool!

Go Mustangs!

Mrs. Meeks

Math Pentathlon is a fun after school club for 2nd - 5th graders that love math and strategy games! The club will meet weekly on Tuesdays after school until 4:00 p.m. where we will learn the games and prepare to compete in the Math Pentathlon area tournament in April.

If your student is interested in participating, please complete the registration form linked below. Filling out the registration form does not guarantee acceptance. We have a limited number of spots and will be giving priority to last year's participants and then filling in remaining spots on a first come, first served basis. Deadline to register is Friday, October 5th. We will notify you of your child's acceptance after the registration deadline.

What does the Parkside PTA Do?

WE are an organization of

Parents, Teachers and Administrators

dedicated to supporting our students through

programs, family events, volunteer work, and teacher support.

WE work together to provide our students with

the best learning environment possible.

Help Parkside PTA hit our membership goal of 400 members!

Memberships are available in our E-store for $10 or 2 for $16.

Buying a membership doesn't require you to volunteer at the school,

but it does show that you SUPPORT Parkside Elementary!

Box Top Collection Drive

Mark your calendars for our first Box Top Collection drive of the year. Send in your Box Tops anytime between October 1st through October 12, for a chance to win a cupcake party for your class! The winning class will be announced Monday October 15.

Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

The theme this year is “Heroes Around Me”. Last year Parkside had only 17 entries turned in. This year we hope to have at least 50! We would love to see a lot of participation from Parkside students! Each child who submits an entry will receive a participation award and be recognized at a PTA meeting.

Hard copies of submission forms and rules about each of the six categories will be in the community room. You may also email casey@thekoesters.net for electronic copies of these forms.

Multicultural Event Survey

Parkside Elementary PTA is proud to host our first multicultural program on November 10th, 2 pm - 4 pm. We want to showcase the cultures that make up not only our Parkside families but also the communities that support our school. If you or a family member would like to share your culture/ heritage, please fill out the Google form by October 3rd.

If you have any questions, please contact Bobby (Bobbi) Paramasivam at bparamasivam@yahoo.com.

By volunteering 30 minutes a week in 2 - 15 minute sessions of 1:1 reading, you can help solve one of the largest problems in the Greater Austin area – school dropout rates. Research shows that children not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. Join the movement to change this trend by becoming a Literacy Partner or Mentor in one of the many participating elementary schools in the Greater Austin area.

Ready to take action? Make a 30 minute or 1 hour weekly commitment to serve from October – May. Register now at education-connection.org for the district/school and training of your choice. Begin recruiting your friends, neighbors, and co-workers to join us! For more information or questions: education-connection.org │ 512-813-5918 or, you can also contact Tiffany Carnett, our PTA Volunteer Coordinator (parksidevolunteercoordinator@gmail.com)!

Destination Imagination Program

Destination ImagiNation is an extracurricular, school- sponsored program that fosters creativity and team-based problem-solving skills and life skills for students. DI at Parkside is open to all students in 3rd through 5th grades. This is an after school program led by parent volunteers that lasts 5-7 months.

Please turn in the completed student registration form to Kim Connor, QUEST teacher (Room 1317), by FRIDAY, September 28, 2018. No forms will be accepted after September 28th.

Every attempt will be made to place each student who registers on a team. However, the number of adults who are willing to be Team Managers limits us, so please think about volunteering.
