Duncanville Athletics News
February 2024
A Note from the Athletic Director, Derick Roberson
Feeding the Focus
As we enter into the spring semester our quest for dominance continues. Our winter and spring sports programs understand the standard of excellence here in the City of Champions and are up for the challenge that lies ahead. As an athletic program we look to continue our journey to impact student-athletes through the field of sports. We believe that valuable lessons are taught through sports that help prepare our young people for life. Learning how to be a good teammate, how to deal with adversity, and how to be accountable for your actions are key attributes for the success of our students. Be sure to come out and support your favorite Panther sports program and remember to "Feed the Focus...Starve the Distractions!"
DUNCANVILLE HALL OF HONOR'S 2023 INDUCTION CLASS
The Athletic Hall of Honor was established in 2005 to celebrate excellence and salute the contributions of individuals whose advancement of athletics in Duncanville ISD and beyond has made a profound difference in the lives of our young people. Nominees can be coaches, teachers, administrators, athletes, fans, or booster club members who have contributed significantly to Duncanville ISD athletics programs.
The Hall of Honor event provides a small glimpse into the lives of phenomenal athletes and human beings that left a lasting legacy at Duncanville High School. This year's event was held on Friday, February 2, 2024 and was well attended by Interim Superintendent, Andrea Fields, school board members, community members, previous Hall of Honor Inductees, family members and friends of this year's induction class. It was a special night and Duncanville Athletics was honored to highlight the contributions of these five remarkable individuals. Once a Panther, Always a Panther!

Not only are we back-to-back State Champions in football, but we also brought home our very first Girls Track and Field State Championship. Our Boys’ Basketball team earned the coveted title of National Champions, and we also had fine arts students that earned All-State honors!!! It was a great event with music, food trucks, and performances by the Duncanville High School cheerleaders and band.
MEMBER OF PANTHER FOOTBALL SELECTED FOR TOP AWARD BY NIKE
Class of 2025 wide receiver standout, Dakorien Moore, was selected by Nike to represent the Dallas Cowboys at Nike's The Next Ones Event during Super Bowl Weekend. The Next Ones is an invitation only football experience that will bring thirty-two of the top high school players in the USA to an exciting and dynamic showcase of athletic talent. Dakorien and twenty of his teammates were invited by the Dallas Cowboys for an exclusive tour of The Star facility in Frisco. Dakorien was presented his award by Cowboys star receiver, CeeDee Lamb. Coach Samples said, "This is a great recognition for Dakorien because he is a great kid and he works hard on and off the field."
DUNCANVILLE SWIMMERS COMPETE AT REGIONALS
The Panther Swim Team had a strong showing at the district meet with many swimmers swimming their personal bests. Coach Gammon felt like his twelve swimmers that qualified for Regionals could compete and give the Panthers a chance to advance to the next level. The Duncanville Panther Swim Team competed in the Regional Meet this past weekend in Rockwall and represented the City of Champions well! The team came in 10th out of 25 schools in the total points scored.
Xavier Walker came in 7th in the "A Finals" in the 50 freestyle and 8th in the "A Finals" in the 100 freestyle. The Duncanville boys 200 Medley relay team came in first place in the "B finals" and they also came in first place in the "B finals" for the 200 freestyle relay. Great job PANTHERS!!
PANTHERETEES NAMED DISTRICT CO-CHAMPS AND LOOK TO ADVANCE TO STATE
Under first year head coach, Neiman Ford, the Pantherettes finished district play with a big win over Dallas Skyline 78-38 and a district record of 13-1 record. The Duncanville Pantherettes and the Desoto Lady Eagles were named District Co-Champions and a coin was flipped to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The Pantherettes entered the playoffs as the number 1 seed from District 11-6A and defeated Hutto 100-35 in the Bi-District round on Monday. Coach Ford said, " His team understands that it's a marathon during the regular season, but now it's a sprint to the finish. He plans for the Pantherettes to be the last team standing." They are scheduled to play Rockwall at Forney High School on Thursday, February 15th at 6:30PM in the Area Round. Go PANTHERETTES!
BOYS BASKETBALL ON A ROLL
The Panthers had a big win over Desoto last Friday night 88-80. That was their ninth straight win as they continue to roll offensively. They will finish district play on Tuesday vs. Mansfield Legacy and look to be crowned Co-District Champs with Waxahachie if the Indians win against Skyline on Tuesday. The Panthers are no strangers to post season play, however this year's team is. Coach Peavy said, "This team is young and hungry and only two of its' players have gold medals from two years ago when the Panthers won the state championship. He added, "This team is ready to re-establish Panther basketball as a state contender." Good luck in the playoffs and Go PANTHERS!
