2nd Quarter, Week 2: November 9-13th
Happy Friday!
We have asked students to bring in gravy in support of the Thanksgiving Baskets we are making at MIS. The class that brings in the most cans will get a pizza party.
Language Arts/Social Studies
This week in ELA:
This week we looked at how technical, connotative and figurative language can affect an informational text. In Social Studies, students read about the Ancient Israelites.
Next week we will be looking at how a particular sentence, chapter, scene, or stanza fits into the overall structure of a text and contributes to the development of the theme, setting, or plot context.
In Social Studies students will be reading about Ancient Greeks.
Vocabulary will be a bit different in the next few weeks. We will still be looking at stem words but we are going to start analyzing them in a text.
Math
This week in Math:
This week in math, students reviewed inequalities and investigated absolute value. Below are key questions that students should be able to answer.
Essential questions
Can I compare and contrast the value of two integers using an inequality statement?
Can I solve a word problem using sea level, temperature or elevation and absolute value? What is absolute value? How do I find it?
What is the relationship between two opposite integers and their absolute value?
Monday students will complete the unit post assessment.

Science
In Science:
This week in science, students looked a little closer at atoms. They continue to learn the properties of matter as well as the structure and classifications of matter. Next week they will begin to recognize that all matter is made of atoms and that atoms of the same element are all alike...but are different from the atoms of other elements.
