August 23, 2019
Colts,
What a great first week of school! It was great to see all of our new and returning Colts in action in all of their classes and getting accustomed to school life again. Tonight we wrap up the week celebrating the beginning of the school year with our Back-to-School PTA Social, which is always a fun time for our Colts. We look forward to seeing you all at Curriculum Night this coming Tuesday. There will be a PTA session beforehand at 5:30pm in the cafeteria; I encourage each of you to sign up and be a part of our great PTA community. The class walks and overviews will follow at 6:00, which will give you an opportunity to get class overviews and specific class information. I hope you enjoy a nice weekend, and we will see you on Tuesday!

Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders
As a reminder for the safety of our Colt community, we are asking that if you pull into the main parking lot during drop off/pick up areas to park in a parking spot as opposed to staying stopped (even with emergency blinkers on) in the areas of traffic flow. Please DO NOT stop in the area indicated in the picture below for the safety of all. Thank you for keeping our Colt community safe.
Traffic - From our SRO (Student Resource Officer)
Parents,
A few reminders about student pick up as we kick off the new school year:
It is always best to use the main pickup line. I know the traffic line looks long, but it goes much faster than the parking lot and doesn’t get as crowded! If you go in the parking lot to pick up, you MUST park in a spot. Please do not block the people trying to back out from the spots. The parking lot is a two way lane and it causes traffic jam issues if you pull up and wait for your child to come out. Talk to your children about paying attention in the parking lot. We remind them at school and ask that you reinforce at home!) If you do not have a handicap parking sign, please do not park in a handicap spot. They MUST use the crosswalk where we have a teacher positioned to keep them safe. Obey the teacher in the crosswalk. They are there to keep all of the children safe, including yours. Your student must enter the car curbside when utilizing the pickup line. Please do not pull around all the cars to get to the front and ask them to enter in the traffic lane. The police department and I will not allow it.
And last, but arguably the most important, PLEASE REMEMBER YOU ARE IN A SCHOOL ZONE SO NO CELL PHONE USE. If you are parked in the parking lot, cell phone use is allowed. If you are actively moving through the pickup line, IT IS NOT ALLOWED. If you are moving at all, put your phone down. All cell phone use in the active school zone must be hands free. (Hands free means hands free. If your phone is on speaker, but you are still holding it to your mouth, it is not hands free.)
Thank you for your cooperation! If you have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to email me at amy.beregszaszy@gcisd.net or call 817-305-4907.

Google Classroom
Parents, most of your students’ teachers use Google Classroom as a platform where students can access assignments and class information. Parents can receive summaries from Google Classroom to stay informed about what is happening in student’s classes. If you are not already listed as a guardian in Google Classroom, you should be receiving an email within the next week inviting you as a guardian to your student’s Google Classroom. Accepting the invitation will allow you to receive email summaries from Google Classroom. Here is more information about email summaries: https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6388136

Interested in Volunteering at CMS?
The 2019-2020 CMS PTA Officers and Executive Board Members are already hard at work to ensure we have another great year at CMS. We would love your help! Please complete this google form to let us know where you are interested in volunteering and helping out. Your name and contact information will be given to the various board members so that they may reach out to you when your help is needed throughout the year. Please remember to complete the GCISD Background Check ASAP! This form must be resubmitted every school year. While you're completing it for yourself, go ahead and complete it for your spouse, parents, or any adult family member that may want to volunteer at CMS or attend field trips. We have a social the first Friday of school and volunteers must be cleared in order to help out. Parents will only be allowed to attend the social if they are signed up to volunteer. Processing of this form takes an average of 10 days and because the process is outsourced, GCISD does not have control over the speed of the process. It’s no fun to turn away willing volunteers because they haven’t completed this easy step. So, please complete it ASAP! Please contact Stephanie Williams, VP of Volunteers, with any questions at volunteer@cmscoltspta.org.
Attention CMS Dads!
As the Colleyville Middle School Dad's Club gains momentum, we are looking for easier and more direct ways to contact our awesome fathers for future volunteer opportunities. If you are a dad, wanting to volunteer fill the form on the link below. If you are a mom and want to fill this out for a dad, cool uncle, best grandpa, etc., please do! We need you guys to help keep our school safe and fun! If you have any questions about this new program reach out to Todd Bargy at tmbargy@gmail.com .
