Dear Westbrook Families,
Happy Valentine's Day and President's Day! Thank you to all the room parents to organized Valentine's Fun-Day for all of our Westbrook students earlier this week. All of our students had a wonderful time!
Please note that Monday, February 19 is President's Day and there is no school. Tuesday, February 20 is teacher institute day and there is no school for students. Teachers will use this day to continue their professional learning to best support our learners at Westbrook!
Thank you for taking the time to read through this bulletin. We have a lot of important information for your attention and review.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
This is such an important time for you and your child's teacher to review your child's progress so far this year. Areas of strength are identified and celebrated, and areas that are challenging are discussed. By discussing what is observed at home as well as at school, you and the teacher can mutually decide on plans for a successful completion of this school year. By sharing what you both know about the child, you are part of a team working together for your child's growth in school.
Here are some suggestions for making the most of this meeting time.
Here are some suggestions for making the most of this meeting time.
- Be on time for your conference so you can end on time for the next parent.
- Talk to your child before the conference. What are his/her favorite learning activities in school? What part of the day is easiest, and what part is more difficult? Is there anything he/she would like the teacher to know?
- At the conference, besides learning about your child's academic performance, ask about his/her behavior, relationships peers, or methods of solving conflicts.
- How does your child react to trying new things? What does he/she do when things are challenging?
- Finally, ask what YOU can do at home to help your child.
- After the conference, be sure to sit down with your child to talk about the great things he/she is doing at school, areas for growth, and any plan you and the teacher might have made.
Our teachers put a great deal of time preparing for conferences. If you find that you cannot make the scheduled conference time, please notify the teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for your partnership and focused time on your child's growth and development as a learner.
Bus Safety
Please take a moment to review appropriate bus behavior with your children. The bus should be considered an extension of the classroom; the same expectations apply!
There are just three rules that help to make the ride to and from school as safe and pleasant as possible.
There are just three rules that help to make the ride to and from school as safe and pleasant as possible.
- Sitting in the seat at all times
- Use a quiet voice
- Keep hands and feet to yourself the whole time!
These are the expectations that we have for the students to ensure safety for all students riding the bus. Please help us reinforce these rules at home by talking to your children. It is important that children know and follow these rules.
