Nesbit Local School Plan for Improvement

Each year our school has to set goals and develop a Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) that will increase student achievement. Stakeholders (teachers, parents, students, and leaders) contribute to the development of the LSPI. Please click the link below to review our 2016-17 Local School Plan for Improvement. We will "Nesbitize" together.

CogAT testing

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test (NRT). The CogAT measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. CogAT testing will begin on Wednesday, 9/21 and will conclude with make ups on Tuesday, 9/27. Only grades 1,2, and 5 will be testing.

Teacher Survey

This year our school and district are going through the accreditation process. Part of this process includes a teacher survey. We need all certified teachers to participate. Please click the link below to complete the survey. Thank you for your help with this important work.

Early Release

We will have early release on both September 28th and September 29th students will go home at 11:45 AM. Please adjust your schedule for early release. Refer to Ms. Hollingsworth's email on how to schedule early release conferences.

Imagine Learning and Arrival Times

Imagine Learning Lab will begin during the next few weeks. Ms. McCrear will be sending out an e-mail with guidance. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade EL students will be receiving extra language development support each morning for 30 minutes. Research shows this will increase their language proficiency by 65% after 20 hours of instruction. Students will report to the computer lab as soon as they get off the bus at 7:40. They will complete their Imagine Learning session and get their breakfast as they are leaving the lab. Imagine Learning students will be in the labs from 7:40 until 8:15.

Students entering the building at 7:40 each day. Teacher arrival time is 7:30. Please be ready to receive student at 7:40 each day. Those who have duty please be at your duty station by 7:40.

Instructional Rounds

The Nesbit "A" Team is observing classrooms together as a team to increase our capacity and feedback skills through instructional rounds. Instructional Rounds will be conducted weekly by the "A" Team. Instructional Rounds are similar to medical rounds where educational leaders look at instruction together and discuss how to provide teachers with powerful feedback that will build teacher capacity. Our Assistant Superientendant, Clay Hunter is also conducting instructional rounds with our AP's and Instructional Coaches. Our first set of instructional rounds with Mr. Hunter will be Tuesday, September 28th. We look forward to being in your classroom and providing you with powerful feedback that will increase your professional knowledge :)

GTES / Brief Observation Two / Instructional Expectations

The "A"Team is finishing up Brief Observation one this week. We will begin Brief Observation two before the end of the week. As we continue our evaluation journey I want to be clear about Nesbit Elementary's instructional expectations/ framework. Nesbit Elementary's instructional framework is the Nesbitized Release of Instruction. This framework should be used for all subject areas all day long. The Nesbitized Release of Instruction includes:

  • I do - Mini-Lesson Using the Architecture of a Mini Lesson Components - Connect, Teach, Active Engagement , and Link
  • We Do - Guided Groups - Teachers should have a guided notebook that is available for review
  • We Do - Collaborative Groups
  • You Do - Independent Work/ Formative Assesment

In order to receive a proficient rating on GTES, you must be effectively executing the Nesbitized Release of Instruction. If you have questions and/or need coaching support please reach out to your grade level coach and grade level AP.

Mustang STEM Fair and Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful

Thank you to Ms. Staker, Ms. Foust, and Ms. England for representing Nesbit at the Meadowcreek STEM fair. Each Meadowcreek cluster school had to present their STEM program to Mr. Wilbanks, GCPS CEO/Superintendent. These ladies did an outstanding job.

Thanks to Ms. England for her leadership last year with Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. Ms. England's leadership with recycling, the school garden, and keeping Nesbit environmentally aware yielded a $50 check and county recognition. This year Ms. Jenkins and Ms. Staker will be leading a vertical committee to reach our Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful goals. Each grade level will need a representative on this committee.
