The Good Friday Agreement

At 5.30pm on Friday 10 April 1998, George Mitchell stated: "I am pleased to announce that the two governments and the political parties in Northern Ireland have reached agreement".

The Agreement Said:
- Ireland will not be united without a majority support
- A multi-party government will be in charge
- All people shall have basic human rights
- Irish will be taught in all schools
- Political prisoners will be released
- Paramilitary groups shall be decommissioned within two years
- The people of Northern Ireland are allowed to call themselves Irish or British
