Death of Marilyn Monroe
By: Adriana Hershberger
What Happened?
Marilyn Monroe was found dead in the bedroom of her Bentwood home on August 5th, 1962. Monroe's housekeeper noticed her laying in her bed and called Ralph Greeson, Monroe's psychiatrist. She died of a barbiturate overdose injection. Marilyn was only 36 years of age.
Media Portrayal
The media at the time of Marilyn's death twisted the story and never gave all the details. Every news station seemed to have a different take on the event. Some say so committed suicide. Others believe she was murdered. No one will ever truly know how she died, all we know for sure is it was an overdose.
Criticisms
Marilyn Monroe was a troubled actress, but she also had a lot to live for. Some say no matter how she died she will always be known as the Kennedy's whore, feminist criticism. Monroe came from a poor household. She was put in a orphanage and didn't have much family. Then she rose to fame with her acting and modeling skills, marxist criticism.
Biases?
The media had many different takes on what happened in the death of Marilyn Monroe. The newspapers and the radio stations in 1962 were the only media outlets for people to get information. If the media twisted the story the people believed what they heard. Some media outlets believed strongly in her death being a suicide. Others believed the Kennedy's caused her death. Murder or Suicide is what some head lines read and this lead to people making their own decisions about Monroe's death.
My Conclusion
I believe Marilyn Monroe was murdered. I'm not sure by who. Maybe the Kennedy's had something to do with it. She could of ruined their reputations and caused them to lose the credibility. No matter what happened to her she was seen as a media icon. She was called a sex symbol and she was glamorized everywhere.
