News you can use from LISD Instructional Technology

Is SchoolWeb going away?

No, LISD is not getting rid of SchoolWeb. SchoolWeb (it's proper name is Moodle) was introduced to district teachers well before Edmodo, Google Classroom and the like came along. There have been several updates to Moodle programs but LISD has used the same version for quite some time. In order to make the transition to a new version, teachers who wish to maintain their Moodle sites need to back up their current Moodle site and restore the course in the new Moodle by July 30, 2015. Please click here for more information about the transition and upcoming classes.

What is the difference between Moodle, Edmodo and Google Classroom?

LISD currently supports all three of these Learning Management Systems. All three offer ways to connect students, parents and teachers to course content. Take a look at this infographic to see the difference between the three learning tools. Classes are offered for Moodle and Google Classroom. Click here to see more.

Third Grade Math TEKS and Tech

Tuesday, January 13, 8am-3pm Alpha Lab @ Bolin

This is an opportunity for third grade teachers to unlock the power of their classroom technology to see where students are at in their learning process. Participants will look at some of the math TEKS for the third 9 weeks of school and identify the learning outcomes for their students. Then participants will learn how to check for student understanding along the way, quickly and easily, with the use of their classroom technology.

Learning Revealed: Using Technology Tools to SEE Student Learning

For Teachers in Grades 4-8

Part 1: Wednesday, January 28, 8:30-3:30, Bolin Admin Building Room D

Part 2: Thursday, February 26, 8-11am, Bolin Admin Building, Beta Lab

Participants must attend both sessions.

Do you enjoy using technology in new ways and sharing what you learn with others? Are you looking to unleash the power of your classroom technology to see where your students are at in their learning process? Participants will learn how to use their classroom technology to check for student understanding during the learning process, quickly and easily. Participants will design learning for an upcoming topic in their classroom. They will then return for a second session to share what they designed with others by creating a chapter of an iTunesU course. (No need to know how to use iTunesU prior to the course.)

Redefining Keyboarding- seeking elementary input!

As the technology tools in elementary classrooms have changed, so does the way in which the elementary keyboarding TEKS need to be addressed. As we redefine the way in which we meet these standards, we would like as much teacher input as possible. If you would like to be part of the conversation around elementary keyboarding, please contact Annette McManus at In addition, please join us on January 22, from 3:30-5pm in the Think Spot at Bolin Administration Building.
