The Dragons' Lair

September Edition

From the Principals

Hello Dragon Families:

What a great start to the 2022-23 school year. We are a month in and students are doing a great job of meeting our school expectations. We have had our first presentation for the PRIDE program. Congratulations to all our Persistance award recipients!

Next week we will have our first SPIRIT Week in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness. Please see the link for an outline of our daily themes. Also, we will be holding penny wars to raise money for childhood cancer research. Students are encouraged to bring in change to add to their buckets. Every cent is worth a point. Dollars can be added to other grade levels to subtract points. Let's see what grade level can help raise the most to support this worthy cause!

Our SCE student council will be participating in the SCHS Homecoming Parade on September 15th. The parade will begin at 6:00 PM. Student council students should arrive at 5:00 at Haas Cabinets.

We are always looking for substitute teachers! If you are interested in this, please let us know! This is a great way to be at school when your children are here and get paid for your time! Contact our central office for more information, 812-246-3375.

We would like to invite you to participate in our school improvement council. This is an opportunity to provide your perspective on school improvement initiatives here at SCE. If you are interested in joining, please click on this link for more information. You will need our 4-digit school code from the IDOE to join. The code is 0789.

If you need to make any changes in your child's transportation we ask that you call the office prior to 2:00. This will allow us time to get the information where it is needed. It is okay to contact the teacher, but it is important to contact the office as well. There are days when there is a substitute teacher and they may not see their email. The 2:00 timeline is important to ensure everyone is notified properly.

As always we want to thank you for your partnership! We appreciate the honor of working with your children every day!

It is a GREAT time to be a DRAGON!

As most of you have seen, construction has started around campus! It is exciting to see our advancements and plans for the future become reality. With this growth, we will experience some growing pains. In the next few years, we will have an extremely crowded campus as we accommodate for construction. Some of this we are already feeling.

Our car rider line will soon move as the roadway behind the high school will be removed. It will be in the newly formed lot beside our playground. When we are closer to the move, we will be sure to communicate the new plan for dismissal and arrival.

Unfortunately, due to only having 6 visitor parking spots available, we will have to limit activities in the building. This will begin with fall parties. Teachers will work with our room parents and PTO to help plan their activities, as we have done over the past few years. Students will have a party and have a memorable day, yet we will not be able to invite visitors into the building at this time. We understand this is disappointing news, it is for us as well. We simply do not have room at this point.

These growing pains will not be fun these next few years, but will be worth it once it is complete!! Thank you for understanding!!
