Hello Shining Star Families,
I hope that you all have had a great start to our school year and wanted to let you know I have enjoyed working with your child(ren) so far this fall. I want to let you know that I will be using the rest of my maternity leave starting on Nov. 2nd and returning after winter break. My long term sub is Mr. Dave Taddey. If you need anything while I am on leave, please reach out to Mr. Taddey or Mr. Wagner at Dave.Taddy@nbexcellence.org or Mitchell.Wagner@nbexcellence.org.
Wishing you all the best through the holidays!
Thanks and take care,
~Mrs. Bates
*Starting Nov. 2nd, the School District of New Berlin is proud to partner with Securly to offer Tipline, an anonymous tip-reporting system designed to give students another voice in our “See Something, Say Something” efforts.
All tips, whether submitted via phone, text, online or the app, go to the Securly 24 team, highly trained specialists with backgrounds in psychology, sociology and working / volunteering with children. The Securly 24 team determines the validity and risk level of all tips, and, based on the assessment, time of day, etc., the team determines whom to alert about the tip.
You can download the Securly Tipline app in the Apple App Store or in Google Play (app store for Android phones). You can also submit tips on the web at www.securly.com/tip, by phone at 1-833-300STOP or email at tipline@securly.com.

*Reading is Cool!!
What a beginning to first semester we are having — whether learning virtually or in person, our students have been shining! Together or apart, reading is one of the best ways we can shine together. This year, students won’t just be earning prizes for achieving their reading goals, but they will be sharing some of their favorite books from each month on their goal sheet. PFC will keep track of everyone’s book recommendations and post what our readers are loving each month. Also, to go along with the theme of 2020, Reading is Cool will be virtual using Google Forms. No more paper tracking sheets! For new families, or those needing a refresher, Reading is Cool is a PFC sponsored program designed to encourage reading while helping students improve skills and develop a love of books. Encouraging children to read early in life opens their minds to many new ideas. The program awards students for completing their monthly reading goals and recommending books to their peers. Any and all classroom reading may be combined with students’ recreational reading on their monthly time sheets. Reading out loud with another person may also be included. Nothing is off limits — the more reading, the better for everyone.
In order to qualify for prizes, a student must:
1. Read the required number of hours for their individual grade level. A reading record sheet is included with this email if families would like a paper tracker.
• K-2nd grade = 4 hours per month • 3rd and 4th grade = 6 hours per month • 5th and 6th grade = 8 hours per month
2. Select at least three of their favorite book titles to submit with their reading hours on Google.
3. Complete the Reading is Cool: OL Book Club Google Form by the submission date. Be sure to go online to https://forms.gle/ntjn4WJfvcnxGp8RA and submit your first Google Form by November 24. Families with more than one OL Star will need to submit a form for each child. We hope your family chooses to participate in the Reading is Cool! program on a monthly basis. If you have any questions, please contact Emily Brezinsky at emilybrezinsky@gmail.com.
*Scrip is Back!!
The PFC Scrip program is a gift card program that allows parents to buy gift cards at face value while earning money back for our school. Each company offers a percentage back for each gift card you buy. For example, if you buy a $100 Pick N Save gift card, you pay $100 and the school earns $4. This is the easiest way to earn money for the school spending money you would have spent anyhow. Card Orders are due on designated days (see dates below) and are delivered to school by the following week. Cards can be sent home with your child or picked up in the office. Orders can be placed with a paper order form (link in newsletter) or online at www.shopwithscrip.com (our enrollment code is 4L646D6626862) Payment can be made by check made out to Orchard Lane PFC, Cash or Presto Pay. Scrip Now orders can be placed at any time and printed at home. If you have any questions, please feel free to call/text Kerry Gilgenbach at (414) 218-7506 or email at Kerry.OL.Scrip@gmail.com Due Dates: 11/12, 12/14, 1/15, 2/15, 3/15, 4/15 & 5/13 Order Link
