The ASVAB is an aptitude test that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. It is administered annually to more than one million students. The ASVAB is not only for military purposes; it can be beneficial for all students. The career exploration scores can help you determine your readiness for further education and training in different career areas. Knowing your academic strengths and weaknesses gives you time to work to improve them before you start a job, begin college, vocational school. The ASVAB is administered at CHS free of charge. The test will be administered to Seniors only on October 19 at 8:45 am in Seminar E.
If you would like to participate in this test, please fill out the REGISTRATION FORM.
PSAT: All students in grades 9-11 will be taking the PSAT on October 19. Students are automatically signed up for the test at no charge, no action is required. Freshman will be taking the PSAT 8/9. Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Only Juniors are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
PSAT Calculators: All Juniors will be supplied calculators for the PSAT. Freshman and Sophomore students may bring their own calculators to the test, but they must follow College Board Calculator Guidelines.
Why is the PSAT Important? The PSAT stands for Preliminary SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). It is a good resource to use when preparing and studying for the SAT. You can even link your PSAT results to Khan Academy to get personalized SAT prep. For Juniors taking the PSAT/NMSQT your scores could qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Seniors should be registering for the ACT and/or SAT as well as the TSI to ensure their preparedness for life after high school. More information can be obtained from any counselor or Mrs. Pair.
