What is Google Apps for Education?
Productivity suite that embraces the 4 C’s of 21st Century Learning (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking)
Suite includes a word processor (Google Docs), a spreadsheet tool (Google Sheets), a presentation tool (Google Slides), and a learning management system (Google Classroom).
Before we Begin...
No student information (which could violate FERPA) to be saved in Google Drive.
No sharing documents outside of the rfisd.net domain (especially with parents)
Critical and important documents MUST be stored on the H: drive. This gives us a way to backup and restore any information that could be deleted/wiped
What CAN go into Google Drive?
Student names
Student work/products
Teacher produced documents, presentations, etc.
- Copyrighted material as long as copyright laws are followed
What CANNOT go into Google Drive?
504 Plans
IEPs
Student Grades/Report Cards (shared with others)
RtI Plans
Special Needs Accommodations

Signing Into Google Apps for Education
Before logging into Google Apps for the first time, you MUST change your network password
- Navigate to https://google.com and click Sign In in the top right corner
- Enter your RFISD email address and click Next. DO NOT create a new account
- Enter your changed network password and click Sign In
If you are asked to select between an organizational account or a personal account, select the organizational account.

Join a class using the class code
- Sign in to Classroom at classroom.google.com.
- In the upper-right corner, click the plus sign (+)
- Enter the class code and click Join.
