Quote for the Week
Try to make at least one person happy every day. If you cannot do a kind deed, speak a kind word. If you cannot speak a kind word, think a kind thought. Count up, if you can, the treasure of happiness that you would dispense in a week, in a year, in a lifetime!

TSI Testing
This is a wonderful opportunity for graduating seniors who plan to attend a Texas university or college and have not previously taken or passed the TSI to complete one of those requirements. Juniors are also highly encouraged to take advantage of taking the TSI now in order to gauge their college readiness. The exam is helpful for 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade scholars because it identifies academic gaps that teachers can focus on to help prepare students for college.
The exams will be given on campus. Online flex learners are asked to come to CHHS to take the test:
Tuesday, May 11, 2021: 11th and 12th grade English Language Arts
Wednesday, May 12, 2021: 11th and 12th-grade Mathematics
Wednesday, May 19, 2021: 9th and 10th grade English Language Arts
Thursday, May 20, 2021: 10th-grade Mathematics
All participants should bring their Chromebook fully charged
Signs will be posted at entry doors
Arrive at 7:45 a.m.
The test will end at 11:45
Virtual scholars can be allowed to leave at that time
If you have passed the TSI your name is omitted from the list and you will not take the TSI. All scholars will report to school regardless if they are testing or not.
If you have a testing question, please reach out to the following:
Mrs. Bragg Traci.Bragg@chisd.net
Attendance Procedure
Scholars who have selected Traditional Learning will be counted present ONLY when they are physically in class unless they have been quarantined due to COVID-19.
- If a scholar is absent 3 consecutive days without an excused absence in the first week of the learning period, they will be switched to Flex Learning ( if not mandated to traditional because of grades)
- This means that in-person scholars will no longer be able to turn in assignments by 11:59 p.m. of that day to be counted present.
- They must be physically present in class to avoid an absence. Quarantined scholars will be able to follow current practices to gain attendance for the days they are quarantined.
- Scholars are required to turn in work for a grade but will not receive attendance credit if they are not physically in class.
- Parents must turn in excuses for absences.
Also, we offer an asynchronous online learning model that has been approved by the Texas Education Agency. This model allows scholars at home to take classes online, known as Flex Learning. Here are a few reminders for online learners:
- Attendance will be taken daily by 11:59 p.m.
- Lessons are available through Schoology.
- During the school day, teachers will provide opportunities for direct instruction.
- Scholars will also complete assignments and projects independently at the direction of their teacher. They will have access to recorded lessons, small group virtual tutoring and support, as well as online materials.
Question: What if my scholar's attendance is not correct?
Answer:
- Email the teacher who you believe made a mistake with the attendance
- In your message identify the particular dates in question ( You may need to look at SKYWARD)
- CC the appropriate people on your emails
- grettel.romero@chisd.net ( Last names A-L)

Graduation
If your student is struggling academically, please do these things:
* Encourage them to talk to their teachers in class/google meet/email about any missing work, test redemption opportunities or questions that they have.
* Encourage them to go see their teachers, if Face to Face, for tutoring or to make up missing work.
* If your student is choosing Virtual Instruction and is struggling, then that may not be the best method for them to learn. Please reach out to a counselor or administrator to review their situation and request to change their Mode of Instruction to Face-to-Face to help them academically. If you wish for him/her to remain virtual, be sure that they are attending Schoology sessions each day, engaging with their teacher and doing the work
* Remind them (especially if they are freshmen) that in high school, they must pass their classes to earn credits. If they do not earn the credit in a class, they will have to re-take that class next year/semester
* Reach out to a Counselor or Administrator to discuss any special circumstances.
We are all here to help in any way we can!

If you choose to not meet the expectations, you will be escorted out accordingly. If you are quarantined, you are not allowed to be at campus events for any reason.
SMARTPASS
Cedar Hill High School will begin using the digital hall pass system SmartPass. SmartPass does not have a GPS tracking system, it is just a digital version of the sign-out sheet and paper passes.
It provides administrators an accounting of which students are outside of the classroom during the school day. In case of emergencies such as fires, severe weather, or building intruders, administrators have real-time access to this critical information. Beyond the uses for emergency situations, the transition from the germ-carrying classroom woodblocks or paper passes used today to digital will also make it easier to identify excessive use of bathrooms or students who may be taking advantage of hallway privileges. This leads to more effective and informative parent-teacher conferences, as well as ensuring students are where they should be - in the classroom learning.
Students and staff can access SmartPass from a device or from their personal mobile device through the App Store or at www.smartpass.app/app. Once downloaded, students will use their CHISD email to log-in.
Please review the student overview below:
For more information, please visit the vendor’s website at https://www.smartpass.app/faq.

UIL Spectator Information
UIL Event Spectator Information:
All Texas Public School Districts received new UIL Guidelines for COVID 19 Mitigation Expectations, including masks and social distancing, at all UIL events and therefore CHISD has updated the UIL Event Spectator Guidelines to include this information. This includes all UIL events that occur at the Longhorn Stadium or CHHS Gyms. We are grateful for spectator support at our UIL events and we want to be able to continue to have a fan base. In order to do so, we must be more vigilant to follow the COVID19 Mitigation Protocols that are expected.
Below are the key points to know about expectations when attending ANY UIL event:
* Masks are expected to be worn in the stadium, at the fields, or inside the gyms at ALL TIMES unless you are eating or drinking. We are required to adhere to state guidelines and the Governor’s GA-29 order.
* Please wear masks while sitting in the stands at the events to increase protection for yourself and those around you.
* Do not sit on bleachers marked as "no seating.” CHISD has taped off more seats to provide improved social distancing in the stands.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and Lunch for all CHISD scholars will be free for the remainder of the 20-21 school year.
Campus Deliveries
Parents/Guardians can bring food to the campus but it must be delivered to the main office and you must communicate with the scholar to come and pick it up during their lunch.
If your scholar orders food to be delivered ( UBER-EATS, LYFT, etc) to the campus, they will not receive it and it will not be refunded. Please govern yourself accordingly.
Visitor Check-In
To assist CHISD with contact tracing protocols, we are asking visitors, families and staff
members to complete the short survey that is available at the main entrance of every campus.
An example of the signage you will see on the exterior main door is below.
If you are visiting a CHISD school campus or building where you do not office, you are asked to click the QR code with each visit and complete the short survey. This includes staff (custodians, central office staff, security officers etc.). Completing this check-in form will help Health Services facilitate contact tracing quicker.
Vendors, visitors and parents will also be required to complete the check-in form when arriving at a campus.
This signage is also available in Spanish for our families.

UIL State Track Meet
The Cedar Hill High School Track & Field Team had a phenomenal afternoon on Saturday at the UIL Class 6A Track & Field Championships in Austin, winning three gold medals in less than four hours. Senior Brya Brewer, the top girls high school triple jumper in the United States, won the gold medal in the Triple Jump. The Texas Tech commit’s best jump – 42 feet, seven and a half inches was two feet farther than the silver medalist from Richmond George Ranch. Brewer was also seventh in the Long Jump (18-6). The Boys 4x100 Meter Relay of seniors Kaleb Green, Diallo Good, Brian Rainey and DaCorey Ware won the gold medal by a millisecond over Katy Tompkins at 40.49 seconds. Alief Taylor was a third of a second behind both schools, in third place. The Boys 4x200 Meter Relay of Green, junior Robert Richardson, Ware and Good won the gold medal in 1:23.99, defeating Cypress Ridge by nearly three-tenths of a second. Because relay events are worth double the points, the Longhorns Boys Team finished second in the 6A Team Standings, despite only qualifying for two events (the two relays).

CBA/Final Exam
Final Exams will be administered for the 2020-2021 spring semester. We will continue to use CBA #6 as the assessment instrument for the exams. Due to the need to take up devices prior to the end of the school year, CBA #6 will be a paper assessment for the face-to-face scholars. The final exam will NOT be calculated in the students’ grade. Continue to stress the importance of the assessment to your students because we will use the data to assist with identifying priority standards, intervention, and class scheduling.
