Soaring Over MDE

Week 12

End of the First Trimester

Another fantastic week! Not much was going on in the world this week, right....not quite! I hope this finds you all taking deep breaths while we wait for the outcome of our National election. No matter the winner, this has been a very valuable lesson in democracy for our students. I hope the process has been discussed within your family.

We have hit the end of 3-months! I am still in shock that we have currently been in school for 58-days. Today also marks the last day of the trimester. Report cards will be visible November 20, via Home Link. We will not be printing the report cards.

I do hope everyone was able to read our Superintendent Adam Clark's, Friday Letter. If you have not read it, please view it here. I have attached his most recent draft of what, potentially, our return to school schedule would look like. I have also attached the form to submit any concerns or comments you may have for him or the Board. I currently do not have any more information other than what was shared with everyone today.

Please remember that Wednesday, November 11, 2020 is Veteran's Day. We will have no school and our district servers will be down as well. Enjoy the day off of the computer. If you happen to do something fun and take some images please feel free to share them with me. I would love to post them on our school's Instagram account.

Student Newspaper

I am so happy to report that we now have a student newspaper! Our 5th grader, Rhys, "came" to me about a month ago and asked if he could start a school newspaper. We sent out a call to all 5th graders to join us. Currently, we have 15+ students writing, taking photos, and conducting interviews for the paper. Rhys is the Editor-in-Chief and runs all the meetings, with a little support from me. This group has risen to the challenge and created a fabulous newspaper. Newspapers will be published roughly 2 times a month. The PDF newspaper will be emailed directly to 3rd-5th graders and attached to my weekly newsletter.

On Campus

I have noticed that many people are not wearing masks when they come to campus for any reason. Please remember, masks are REQUIRED when you step foot on our campus. If you do not have one on, you will be asked to leave.

Please know, we have a closed campus. Using the track, the blacktop to ride bikes or skate, the play equipment, and/or the basketball courts is still not allowed. As soon as we are able to reopen these facilities, I will let you know. Until then, please notify your students (mostly Middle School and above) our campus should be considered off limits.
