Hembree Highlights
February 26, 2021
Note from Mrs. Smith
Sunshine and playground, that is what the students and teachers were excited about this week. We had all construction finished by Tuesday so that kids could enjoy the playground again. But now we have an additional layer of protection from the sun's rays. This is important to our children and teachers when HOTlanta is in its summer-like seasons! Thank you School Governance Council for all the hard work to make this happen!
This week was teacher appreciation week! Every student had the opportunity to share their "heart" with them by writing a note to their teacher. It was fun to see all the sweet things that students had to say about their teachers. PTA also worked hard to make sure that teachers felt appreciated and loved this week. Thank you PTA for taking care of those that educate our children.
Allergy season is upon us. Please be vigilant with symptoms. Seasonal allergies typically cause nasal congestion symptoms such as runny nose, sinus congestion, itchy watery eyes and cough but usually do not result in fever as found in COVID-19 and Flu. While COVID-19 can cause shortness of breath or breathing difficulty, seasonal allergies don’t usually cause these symptoms unless you have a respiratory condition such as asthma that can be triggered by pollen exposure.
Has your child lost something?
If the answer is yes, you are not alone. We will be doing two Lost and Found Claiming Days on Saturday, March 6, 2021 and Friday, March 12, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 7p.m. We will not have a staff member present. This is based on the honor system, so please only take what is your child's coat, jacket, lunch box, etc. The items will be by the front door in the car pool lane. Items not picked up by 7 p.m. on March 12th will be given to those in need. We will do this again in May, however, always feel free to reach out to us to look for missing items throughout the year.
I hope your weekend is as great as this week was! Enjoy making memories together.
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

A Yearbook Request
The Yearbook needs your help! Please send us pictures and stories of your students learning virtually - this can be from any point this school year. Be sure to include in the email your student's name, their grade, and the teacher they had at the time of the picture. We need all items submitted by Monday, March 1st - email them to Ashley Russ at ashleyjruss@gmail.com.
Here's what we are looking for:
· CANDID moments of your student(s) learning virtually. By candid, we mean non-posed.
· Send us photos of ANYTHING that happens in your home that connects back to our school, no matter how mundane you think it might be - really, anything!
· Is your student an athlete? Share your student’s story and photos! We are talking about any extracurricular sports:
o BMX
o Equestrian
o Sailing
o Rowing
o Dance (ballroom, ballet, etc)
o Curling
o Hockey
o Martial arts: jiu jitsu, tae kwon do, boxing etc.
o Gymnastics
o Golf
o Surfing/longboarding/skateboarding
o Running
o Weight lifting/powerlifting
o Lumberjack sports/highland games
o Strongman competitions
o Legos, marbles, and arm wrestling...to name a few.
· Is your student doing something awesome? Suzie is making face masks for hospital workers? Johnny is collecting food donations for local food banks? Include those pictures and stories as well.
· Let us know if your student is participating in a special lesson that we can feature. Are they dressing up like Romeo and Juliet to perform a play via Zoom? We need to hear about it! Are they participating in a team building experience involving a phone app? Tell us!
This will definitely be a historic book that our students will look back on for years to come. Remember to submit all items by Monday, March 1st to Ashley Russ at ashleyjruss@gmail.com. Please email her with any questions as well. Thank you for your help!
