From Mr. Nihill

Dear Mary Woodward Families,

We have many families that move into our school attendance area due to our high levels of academic achievement as well as our amazing parent involvement. We have had to put a pause on our parent volunteers working in the building due to COVID-19. We still have parents going above and beyond the call of duty, especially those parents volunteering for our Woodward PSO.

Our current board members are-

Danielle Smart- President

Kristi Sloan- Secretary

Jen Vasicek- (Past Volunteer Coordinator)

Cyndi Clere- (Past President)

Erin Buck- Treasurer

Tanell Ogbeide- Assistant Treasurer

Webmaster- Kristin Romelhardt

Our PSO is an integral part of our school community. They provide resources that help support our classrooms, after school activities, the Woodward garden, reading assistants along with many other examples. The resources come in the form of financial support as well as countless numbers of volunteer hours.

We need your help! Many of our board members have been involved in some leadership capacity for multiple years. We are looking for parents that would be willing to join us on our Woodward PSO. I certainly understand that times are tough and many families are scrambling to change their work hours to accommodate schooling and life itself during this pandemic. The adage, "many hands make light work" certainly comes into play here. In times past we have had parents share roles on our PSO and they have been able to split the workload into sizable chunks. Please consider joining our PSO board and feel free to call me if you have any questions.

From our Library

Eagle Families, our school library is still missing hundreds of books from LAST school year. Please help us out by locating library books your students may still have at home. Overdue notices have been emailed out each week. If you need to see a picture of the book(s), have your student log into the Destiny library catalog on their ipads using their google login. Click the "hamburger" drop-down menu on the left side of the screen (looks like three stacked lines), click "my stuff" and then "fines." (If there's nothing in "fines," all books from the previous year were returned.) Hybrid students can bring books to school and online students can drop off books in the book return bin located in the front vestibule Mon-Fri 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM on days when the school is open. Books are due by Friday, May 28. Thank you!

Attendance Information

MW Attendance Line

Attendance Email:

If your student is absent from school, it is your responsibility to call the Attendance Line, 503.431.4720 or email as early in the day as possible.

Because of the shortened school day, the automated attendance calls will start very early for each hybrid session. Automated calls go out for unexcused absences at 8:45 AM for the morning session and at 1:00 PM for the afternoon session. Our attendance secretary, Mrs. Debbie McRobert must hear from you early to excuse the absence before the robo calls start. Remember, Wednesdays will continue the same as before, with a morning meeting online, and asynchronous learning the rest of the day. Hybrid students do NOT come to the building on Wednesdays, but there is still school and attendance is taken.

It's great if you email the teacher if your student is absent, but please email the office at as well. You can simply copy us on the email that you send to the teacher so you don't have to write two emails.

This is a good habit to start building whether your child is doing 100% online or hybrid instruction. Student safety is a priority at Mary Woodward, and it it essential that we hear from you whenever your child is absent from school.

PSO News

Message from the PSO President

We’re in the home stretch! 27 more days left in the school year, WOW!

We had a great Staff Appreciation Week celebrating our Superhero educators – thank you Cyndi Clere and Megan Wise for a wonderful job coordinating a week’s worth of events!

Thank you to Monica Bjers for setting up our last few dine out nights for the school year. Keep on the look out for the upcoming dates and locations.

I’m so thrilled that we have parents who have stepped up for most of the board positions and committee chair spots for next year! We do have a few still open, so if you’ve been looking for a way to get more involved, this is a great time to check it out. For board positions we have President and President Elect without any nominees, and for committees, we have Art Literacy Team, Caring Closet, Missoula Children’s Theater , Science Fair Team Spring Auction and Enrichment Assembly to fill.

As always, please contact me if you have any thoughts or questions about anything PSO!

Danielle Smart PSO President (

Our final PSO virtual meeting is on Thursday May 20 at 6:30 pm. We will elect our 2021/22 Board Members for next year. If you or anyone you know is interested in getting more involved, please let us know and come to the meeting!
